Switching to part-time! I'm about to spill the tea on my high-flying career and my audacious pivot back to my true love: building things! 🛠️ 🌟 The Backstory 🌟 I kicked off my career as an engineer at Intel, rocketing through the ranks over 11 years to Director status. 🚀 Yep, many promotions! Then, I took my talents to a medical device startup and later to the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. 🌍 Why? Because I wanted to make a dent in the universe—specifically, to reduce suffering at scale. ❤️ The Heart of the Matter ❤️ But here's the plot twist—I miss building. Ever since I transitioned from engineer to business leader, my happiness has taken a hit. I get to impact lives, but not the rush that comes from fixing a bug or seeing your creation come to life? 💡 ⏳ The New Chapter ⏳ So, I've decided to go part-time and embrace my inner builder. With the rise of large language models, the timing couldn't be better. I'm now a part-time Senior Advisor at the Gates Foundation, and I'm diving back into code! 🎉 🛠️ The Plan (or Lack Thereof) 🛠️ When I discussed this with a mentor, she said, "What plan?" Fair point. My "plan" is to tinker, launch small projects, and re-ignite that builder's spark. Sounds risky? Maybe. After all, I'm giving up 50% of my $400k salary and "competing" with youngsters who practically run on Red Bull. 🤷‍♀️ 🔮 The Ask 🔮 So, what do you think? Genius move or mid-life crisis? I'm all ears. Your wisdom, advice, or even a simple thumbs-up or down would be informative. Ask/Tell me anything! 🎙️ #CareerChange #BackToBuilding #Coding #MidLifeAdventures
