It's difficult to see the flaws in your own product.

How do you make sure new users understand what to do in your application?

Recording tool like SmartLook are nice to see how your user interact with the product. But my favourite test is to ask a friend, who don't know anything about the product, to try to do the onboarding and look how he is doing.

I follow target groups. 3 or ideally 5 people in same "group".
for ex:
* 5 people of familiar with your product's industry. 
* 5 college studens of X department
* 5 people 30 y.o
I get their feeeback and analysis the results.
