PH used to have a chat. But it got canceled after people used it mostly to ask for upvotes. Linkedin chat works great if you want to talk shop

@naveed_rehmanPersonally I think of Producthunt as more like a convention center, to showcase new products....and the bar across the street is where we chat and socialise .

That would be awesome and a gret way to meet common minded people
@naveed_rehman did you know about our virtual PH meet up group? We have a call tomorrow actually at 11am EST https://www.linkedin.com/groups/...
Wait. Are you saying chat with their support? Or chat with other members like a direct message?
@naveed_rehman that’s what I thought but the way others were commenting made me question what you meant

I think this would be great feature specially if they can provide what are the steps that needs to be followed before launching a product on producthunt

I was just talking about this earlier this week with @emna_ghariani1 who thought PH already has this, which proves how important it is and how much smoother discussions with fellow makers and hunters would be!

I'm torn on having a chat feature. I think it might take away from the open discussion of products. For example, people might start giving feedback through chat or ask questions through chat, but there are tons of times that I benefited from someone else's feedback or having the same question or even talk about something that I might not have thought about. I feel like having no chat created a stronger and more encouraging community.

Yes! Where do we sign?
Nithin Jawahar
Yeah. that would be pretty awesome to catch with new makers here.

I would not be a big fan of that, it would lead to excessive inbound. I have a LinkedIn and Twitter on my profile so people that want to connect with me already have different channels where they can do so.
We can sign a collective petition to PH asking to add the chat feature :D
I think just a simple hover on profile and it gives you.link to their socials is more helpful Don't want another msg app to take care of haha

It would be good as well as bad. Good for connecting with new people but you will end getting exhausted checking your inbox full of support requests. So, I don't think that's a great idea. However, in my opinion, PH is slowly dying. It seems like they are not supporting startups now. Heard a lot about it from different founders on LinedIn
Naveed Rehman
@lakshya_singh oh... who are they supporting now?
Lakshya Singh
@naveed_rehman Just the top ones. For example, they don't list all the launches on the home page now. Only a few of them. Others stay in the Bootstrapped or Solo Maker section.
Daniel Burns
I wouldn't mind it, sounds like a great idea. Certain people, such as myself, would like to be further engaged into the topic.
K John
That would be awesome, but PH should sort out the current issues.
Zhao Naomi
PH team should look at this.
Annie Chopra
Yes! I feel like it would be fun. But I guess it would be difficult to moderate!
Naveed Rehman
@annie_chopra after seeing 100 chat-agents published everyday I doubt if it is impossible anymore. What you think from that perspective?
Annie Chopra
@naveed_rehman I didn't think of that tbh, ofcourse there can be an easy integration. But I would assume that there is a reason PH doesn't have a chat feature. It would make them much more like a social media on integrating it that's for sure!

I'm all for strengthening the Product Hunt community! A well-designed chat feature could foster deeper connections, collaborations, and even friendships among hunters. Plus, it could provide valuable feedback channels for makers.
Klaudia Bumgarner
Yes they need this feature, it would be awesome!
Sjoerd Handgraaf
Fully synced chat, no thanks. A basic private messaging feature would be a great addition, *in theory*. However, *in practice* the reality is that would be overflowing with "Upvote please!" spam and become useless/unusable in a matter of weeks.
Naveed Rehman
@sjoerdhandgraaf that can be monitored, isn't it?
Sjoerd Handgraaf
@naveed_rehman Theoretically, yes, but that would require either a good algorithm that recognizes spam, or a good/well-resourced human moderation team. Based on my experience with PH, I doubt they can pull off either of them.
