What captures your attention in product launches: Video, Slides, or Both?

Hey PH Community!
As we're gearing up for an upcoming launch, I am curious to know your preferences:
Do you prefer a video or slides when exploring new products on Product Hunt? And if it's a video, what grabs your attention more β a quick, snappy showcase or a detailed walkthrough with a narrator's face included? Or do you go straight to the link?
Please share links to the best launch videos or slides you've come across here on Product Hunt that stand out in your memory. π

I start with slides, if they're good enough, I put another minute in the video:)

Video for me
First the colors of the graphics and then the video to get more info. Colors make or breaks the graphics.
1 video followed by slides. We just launched today and would love your feedback! see: producthunt.com/posts/findr-5

For me demo video works well.
Launching soon!
@ahmed_mobin I couldn't agree more. Usually, I skip to the TL;DR but nothing beats covering the whole context/feats than a concise and captivating demo video. :)
I always preferred a short demo video, as it's more engaging, in my opinion. You can highlight the main features and advantages of your product, showcasing it in a captivating way to display its appearance.
Simple Titles!
If you can explain everything you do in a way that appeals to me in a single sentence, you have at least a click from me to explore more. That's the trick.
Don't be smart, coy, super imaginative. Just cut to the chase and tell me what you do, because if I'm looking for that problem solved, I'll click! :)

@nuno_ms_reis that's a good way of putting it! The problem is, though, HOW do you cut to the chase but also getting people excited about the product. For instance, we are an AI education app and when i tell people "we are an AI education app" that gets nobody excited but when I tell them we offer "free, fun, effective way to master AI" that's something totally different.
Video for me! I only look at the slides if there is no video available or if it doesn't explain well what the product does. The launch video has to show clearly what the product is and what it does. It has to be short but long enough to relay the key message you want your audience to take away. Definitely has to have a narrator at least, if having a face of the narrator is not possible. I've seen videos that had no voiceover at all, but the graphics have to be super engaging in that case. I think the best bet is showing the problem your product solves, the end result after using your product and the reason why it's unique and different from other solutions. In an ideal world a great video should have a hook, tell a compelling and engaging story and have a clear CTA :-)
@simona_o_neill3 Amazing! I love how you broke it down!
Could you go thru our teaser and share you thoughts please : https://x.com/jonathantahiry/sta....
Thanks ππ½
@jonathantahiry No probs at all. I just watched it and have one main suggestion for you. The background music you are using is way too fast for the text being displayed at the very beginning of the video. I like that the words are synced to the beat, but because it changes so fast it makes it impossible to read that text and is quite distracting rather than engaging :-). Other than that, it looks cool and I like the energy of it .
@simona_o_neill3 thanks you so much! I have had the same comment from pretty much everyone I showed but I just have a question, since itβs a teaser and not the product video, do you think if I just use and change only the first 3s it would work?
@simona_o_neill3 Wonderful! Thank you so much for your inputs and time! Let me know if I can be of any help to you!
Video all the way!
Quick showcases grab my attention, but they need to showcase the product's real value.
Launch video (not demo, but a curated launch video) and slides. I guess that's why we're doing it that way!
I need a short video to give me the overall highlights - the length of the video I think around 30 seconds - 1 minute, but if my attention is not captured in the first 10-15 seconds, it's unlikely I'll make it to the end.
I would also want slides but not too many details probably just to add more context, maybe more UI shots if it is not shown in the explainer/feature video.
Personally, I would then move to the maker's comment if I am still interested and finally the website.

Great question! Personally, I love a good mix of both video and slides when exploring new products on Product Hunt.
Definitely video. I'm a person who likes to watch visuals instead of reading slides/pages.

Quickly went through the past days and their top products and it very much varies. :)
In the comments it seems most people prefer video, but there are also some top launches (1st, 2nd, 3rd) with just images.
Findr - no video, just 4 slides - https://www.producthunt.com/post... - today top so far
Peerlist - product video 34s - https://www.producthunt.com/post...
Tidycal - video with founder 10minutes - https://www.producthunt.com/post...
Fusebase - product video 1:05m - https://www.producthunt.com/prod...
Zocket - product video 0:49 - https://www.producthunt.com/prod...
Dubbing AI - this one quite stands out 3:39 :D - https://www.producthunt.com/prod...
Swit - product video - no voiceover - 2m https://www.producthunt.com/prod...
Taskade - product video - no voiceover - 1:16m - https://www.producthunt.com/prod...
So, product video it is then. Let's get to work. :)
