What do open source community members value most?

In my experience, members of open source communities tend to be very motivated to help others achieve amazing things, they value sharing knowledge and constructive and un-opinionated discussion, they value a high level of communication from the project/product owners and developers involved.
I'm currently tasked with growing such a community around our product, Morgen Assist, and so I'm interested to know if anyone else has experience with this, especially in terms of how to get those initial few adopters persevering with the idea they have :)

I think OSS makers value making. I think other things, are what other people think OSS makers value.
