I think it can definitely be different for different communities. At the heart of it is being aligned in the same direction and being willing to design value for everyone, as we're all at different stages of the community journey. It would be interesting to ask the question for the community you serve... For Product Hunt for example, what is the core value? Helping people create and discover successful products?

@rosiesherry In a way you are right as it will be specific to each community. However in the end, a community/tribe is always about going towards a similar journey achieving something together and bringing more value for all. That is the basic definition of a community or a tribe.

Collaboration with people who share the same passion, open-mindedness to approaches different than yours and contribution to a greater purpose, definitely.

To me, it's being service-minded and finding ways to provide value to others.

@5harath I am totally with you on this. Service minded also demonstrates inner leadership IMHO. It is said the hand that gives is always on the top.

Being honest and helpful. Think of each other and support one another. Any community has a topic that attracts like-minded people and creates discussions around it.

For me, it's all about knowledge sharing and having a sense of belonging with the like minded people that otherwise would be impossible to find in the offline world.
Devanand Premkumar
@rajat_dangi1 Hidden gem for sure on the knowledge sharing. It is also said that knowledge when shared is doubled and sadness shared is halved.

A group of people who can provide shared value or support to one another, personally and/or professionally. Lately, I've seen it overused as a buzzword for people to put themselves in the spotlight, but there's obviously value in community building when done right.
Devanand Premkumar
@joshckline Value - given or taken is equally absorbed for the benefit of all. As highlighted by you clearly, this is beneficial when done right.

Engagement. Whether it is socially motivated, educational/informative, or for networking - the Community leaders must be engaged.

Build your Social Village by finding your niche audience to foster proper growth and feedback. Find a group of 20-30 people you resonate with on at least three subject areas and build a small niche community around those individuals. You can do this with various software such as Clubhouse Clubs, Twitter Groups, Discord Servers, direct messaging, etc. Make it your goal as a community leader to help others and begin to work together to help each other to grow.

Focus on UoV - A user “produces” a unit of value (UoV) for other users to “consume”. As a community builder, your focus should be around it initially and ever.
