For those following along, Elon did give us an update last night. He says he’ll step down as head of Twitter once he finds a replacement. And Tom Anderson gunning for this role was not on our bingo card this year.
Now, onto a product that will help get emails done because even the most hardcore hustlers get distracted mid-week before a holiday weekend.
We’ve all been there: An important email, waiting for a response, you go about your business, and put it off as long as you can until it goes too far. According to the University of Waterloo, people delay responding to 37% of emails that require a reply.
AI could make that a thing of the past. More specifically, Ellie, which is a GPT-3 powered browser extension that can automatically respond to emails. It’s built by Danielle Johnson and James Ivings, two seasoned founders in the world of making email better.
Email smarter, not harder: By using GPT-3, Ellie holds a unique selling point. It feels more human because it analyzes your writing style and learns from it. Replies grow to look and feel like they came from you. Ellie can grab pieces of context throughout the email for specific attention and you can dictate the tone, such as casual, respectful, or annoyed. When you’re ready to send, Ellie can format the response in another language.
As we mentioned, this isn’t James and Danielle’s first rodeo. Back in 2019, they picked up a Golden Kitty Award for Leave Me Alone, a subscription service that reduces spam by automatically unsubbing you to things you no longer read.
Better with age: The thing about AI is that it’s like a cast iron pan — the more it’s used, the better it gets. Ellie arrived about a week ago and already has over 4,000 installs and has crafted thousands of responses. We anticipate its accuracy and human-ness will get better with more replies.
Ellie is also coming to more platforms. It currently lives as a browser extension for Chrome and Firefox, but the makers are quickly working to incorporate it into many more platforms. Fingers crossed for a stand-alone client?
