Hey PH, David from the Array Peripherals team (of 2) here. I'm excited to present something that my brother and I have been working on as a side project since quarantine started (this is our first product launch!). The [1x4] + 1 Macropad is a computer peripheral that lets you put commonly used keyboard shortcuts or macros at the touch of a keystroke. We have always been mechanical keyboard enthusiasts and wanted to make a custom hardware product that complemented our desk setup. After experiencing how WFH has changed our workflows, we wanted to make something that was easily customizable to our needs, and came up with this macropad! We sought to make a high quality hardware product that is easy to customize/setup. Personally, I use this to control my media (been getting into entry level audiophile hardware recently!), and set macros to help me process hundreds of images for my research. Our product features customizable mechanical key switches, a rotary knob, and a CNC machined aluminum housing. This product supports VIA configurator (to easily program your keys/macros) and is QMK compatible (for any keyboard experts). Today, we are launching limited pre-orders. We'd love to get some feedback, and would be happy to answer any questions you all have! Happy New Year! - David

Finally, something that will look great on my desk and help automate the annoying small things too! Just in time for the new year. Congratulations to you David and your brother on the launch. How did you decide to go with the 1x4 design at first? I ask because I foresee myself wanting more than just 4 keys and a scroll wheel--is there the functionality to create multiple modes for this macropad and assign one key to a mode switch? And do you have future plans for Array Peripherals of varying sizes?

@zeebers Hi, thanks for the nice comments. We prototyped many different versions and wanted something that everyone can use, without overwhelming the user. We found that having 4 keys would provide extra functionality to our desktops while not complicating our workflows too much. The macropad also comes out-of-the-box with 2 virtual layers, so you can toggle between the two (by pushing the rotary knob), bringing up your total usable shortkeys/macros to 8! As for future products, we plan on expanding to larger "arrays" ;) but have yet to spec out anything as of yet. -- David
