Caleb Hamernick, Founder of Bandto here. π
Bandto is a new kind of Professional Networking tool.
We built this to help you talk to the right people, in the real world without tracking or revealing your location.
Our mission is to make professional networking more efficient, secure, and accessible to all. We believe building a professional network is about talking to people and fostering relevant connections in the real world.
You've done the work to build your digital resumes, websites, set your prices, branding, social media, ad campaigns, or maybe even invested money in event sponsorship.
The last step is relevant distribution.
We think natural convergence and direct communication is the path of least resistance to solve the problem of location-based professional networking.
1. Share what you do with relevant people.
2. Signal how they can work with you.
With Bandto, itβs really simple.
We use a Map to display places where professionally relevant people are converging in the real world.
We call these Signals.
Signals are user activated and totally opt-in.
Activate a Signal at an Airport, Coffee Shop, Conference Center, or Public Park. Anywhere.
Or create your own Signal with a unique @handle for users to follow. Any time you activate it, your network can see where it is and stay up to date with what is going on in your industry.
Signals let you search by Name, Title, Company, and more. Send a contact request or message request, or just strike up a conversation with someone.
Our Suggestion algorithm will highlight relevant people and Signals based on the industry and title you're interested in connecting with.

P.S. We left some easter eggs for future features in the app. Small use cases we think you might find interesting and helpful!

@calebhamernick So excited! Bandto is finally out in the world and I couldnβt be more proud of you!!
@handle@calebhamernick This sounds like a really interesting concept! I appreciate the focus on natural convergence and direct communication. Can you give an example of how someone might use Bandto in a practical situation?
@jorexnovik Absolutely and thank you for the kind words.
Conferences and trade shows are a great opportunity to utilize this tool.
Attendees join the Conference Signal, can see sponsors of the event and use the search bar to filter by name, title, company, and more.
Our suggestion algorithm will help filter the noise and highlight people with the highest probability of relevance based on the title and industry you give us in the app.
A few more examples:
- Gallery openings
- Co-Working Space
- Third Spaces like Airports, Public Parks, Libraries, Coffee Shops, and more.
- Run Clubs + City Sports
- College students who want to organize their network on campus.
- Communities like Black Women in Tech, Photography Clubs, Hack nights, and Pitch events!

I'm curious where the product insight that led to y'all creating this came from? Was it your personal experience networking?
@david_glass
Great question! The idea came from my own pain points of building a professional network from nothing.
In the U.S. we have three primary tools to build a Professional Network.
1. Word of Mouth
2. Tech Platforms
3. Events (U.S. Events industry - $330B Annually)
Word of mouth is often too slow.
Tech Platforms created a golden hammer problem.
- The digital resume was mostly built to do one thing.
- Lead Gen tools are built for companies and organizations.
- Individuals are forced to adapted Social Networks for Professional Networking purposes.
Events are siloed and inefficient
- Time and place restricted
- Costly
We knew we wanted to build [effectively] a consumer level lead-gen tool that allows people to have a direct, curated networking experience.
Opportunity exists in the real world which is why we are first and foremost a maps based tool.
People have tried to make Location-based networking work for years so to get it right, we built it using these these principles:
1. Data security is a top priority. We don't track, store, share or display users locations. It has to be about knowing where opportunity is, not people.
2. People need tools. It has to be actionable. If a user can't monetize their time on our platform, its not worth building it.
3. Lead Gen is at its core the "data-fication" of professional networking. In order to be successful, you have to talk to the right people. The "right" people have the following: Name, Title, Company, and Actionable.
So it was a no-brainer to build out a Suggestion Algorithm.
4. The future of work lies with our ability to access and empower our own communities. Most of the time it starts with just telling people how you can work with them.
Our end goal is to put every industry on the map and equip everyone to be able to walk into any room and instantly know who they should be talking to right now.
Plus I thought the tools we'd have now would be more like the Spy-Kids gadget watches, not just .mp4 and .jpg scrollers.

This looks like a βmust-haveβ for anyone who doesnβt want to go-it alone. As the wise African proverb says, βIf you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.β Bandto will allow many more people to go farther, together. Great concept Caleb!
@zain_sheikh Thanks, Zain! We're looking forward to it too!

As someone who has to move and find a new job every few years due to the military, Iβm looking forward to using this next time I need to start networking.
@nikole_cb Thanks for the kind words, Nikole!! Would be fascinating to see how folks in the military and their families could utilize this as a way to uplift each other through the work that they do!

@calebhamernick Definitely! I think this app has the unique potential to do just that.

This is the networking app we all need. Networking should be about meeting real people in real time in a real space. Before Bandto, it would take a lot of outreach, organization and planning to make this happen, but Bandto now makes this possible with a click of a button! Congrats Caleb and Noah on the launch!
