BikeSpot.fr is a crowdsourced app for sharing and downloading GPS bike routes. Our mission: Allow riders discovering the unexplored and connect them together. Find your next ride on BikeSpot!
Always on the lookout for good cycling GPS apps but as @john_mctavish1 said, it looks very similar to RidewithGPS or Komoot, which I have used when doing long distance cycling in England and whilst en-route, not very intuitive/clear. Is it possible to have a more intuitive map? A cycling version of Waze would be incredible.
Thanks for your precious feedback Kaycee !
About RideWithGPS/komoot similarities, you will find my thoughts below John’s comment 👍
I’m aware there’s still a lot to do to make it more intuitive and easy to use and that’s why I posted this on Product Hunt !
“Waze for cyclists” is an interesting vision ! Do you mean being able to adapt the gps track “live” depending on other cyclists feedback ? (Ex a cyclist tells that climb is closed -> adapt the track)
@needfortri In short, yes. It might be challenging in terms of cycling routes but if there are enough users, it's not impossible. But first and foremost, an easy to follow and accurate gps map would be great - perhaps like Google Maps but better adapted for cyclists.
As we haven't been able to find an app that does everything, what we do currently is find a good route via what's been shared on the internet/Komoot and put down the key locations/turnings on Google Maps and then follow Google Maps. As you can imagine, the preparation stages are slow and boring...
Ok I see, I never try this way. I want to build « an app that does everything », it’s challenging but like you said, together it’s possible !

I believe this product has a lot of potentials!
One question;
What do you think is the advantage for cyclists to use Bikespot over finding a route recommended by a more official entity such as https://en.francevelotourisme.co... ?
Hi fellow riders !
I’m the maker of BikeSpot.fr.
I will help you find the best bicycle tracks around your home and for your next vacations location !
Here are the main features :
✅ Search by city/difficulty among 5000 routes shared by more than 250 riders
✅ Elevation details
✅ Smart weather forecast
✅ Water supplies
✅ Contribute with your own routes
Most of the tracks are in France and I’m working on turning it international.
I’m excited to hear any feedback from you !

Great app, very promising. This may help people looking for itineraries when they travel to an unknown place.
I would love searching by city/region and get a list a the best places/cols to ride 💪
I’m glad to hear from you Mathieu ! It’s on the way 💪🏻
I know you personally love organizing group rides, let’s solve your pain points with the next features 🤟
We did a car camping trip around France a few years back and considered cycling around the next time we go. This app makes my convention to go back stronger :) Great work Nicolas!
Thank you Rucha it’s inspiring ! Next time you come back to France, come back to BikeSpot as well. And if you don’t find what you want, please reach me out !

How's this different from other options like RidewithGPS or Komoot?
That’s a fair and excellent question John !
RideWithGPS, Komoot, Strava, Geovelo, OpenRunner, bikemap.net… our mission is the same : build a better experience for cyclists all around the world. I invented nothing new today.
Neither my friends nor I found an app that answers our needs well. I found RideWithGPS and competitors not very easy to use, and a lack of information about the context (weather, water supplies for example).
If I go on bike vacation somewhere, I always design my routes myself using Strava because I don’t want to miss the most wonderful points of views & climbs.
Also I never heard a friend suggest a gps track on an online site. They don’t find those sites reliable and rather ask their friends for recommandations.
That’s why I built BikeSpot.fr.
And posting on Product Hunt is a way to engage with passionated cyclists like you and build a better solution, day after day.
What’s your thoughts about this ? Is RideWithGPS everything you need, or have you ever imagined something different to prepare your greatest rides ?
Let me know !
