Hey everyone, I made Briefmetrics.
I actually used to work on Google Analytics at Google for a while. One of the big frictions was that people would neglect signing in to check their stats, or navigating the frontend would just take too much effort (over 30 clicks to get the equivalent of a Briefmetrics report).
My goal is to provide opinionated analytic—highlight the parts that are important. It might not be perfect for every scenario, but it should get you most of the way there every Monday morning.
Hit me up with any questions here or find my email in the footer of the site. :)
@ChuckReynolds Nice, signed up for an invitation! Looks like a slick dashboard—I am a fan of dashboards. Very few also do a good job at delivering what you'd want to see in an email, looking forward to it. :)
I try to focus more on delivering analytics to your inbox. I feel that unless your job is analytics, it should not be a destination that you hang out in. Just something you consume and move on.
GA has a feature for that too actually, but it's incredibly hard to configure and you get each report as a separate PDF attachment—basically a snapshot of what you'd see inside GA. :/
Report
@shazow totally agree. I'll look for your signup and get you the invite. standby. Cheers
Report
Sounds like a soothing balm for my pain point. Signed up. @shazow are you pursuing this full-time (eg can we expect a lot of product improvements going forward or is this part-time side gig?)
@thebernieyoo Somewhere in between. :) It's my primary project but I'm doing other things too. The tricky part is figuring out which improvements are worthwhile or not--I have several things half-done like a monthly report focusing on long-term trends, Stripe analytics, and other things. I'm thinking of sending out a survey to all the signups to see what would be most valuable. The conversion rate to paid customers is not great yet, so I'd love to hear any feedback for what would make it worthwhile to your business.
Report
@shazow Thanks for the additional info. I would +1 on expanding conversion rate to paid / funnel analysis, also option to add summary section on utm variable performance (eg so we can monitor metrics on paid ad campaigns) would be nice.
@thebernieyoo One of the hardest parts of sifting through user feedback is differentiating between "something I might use" would be nice, and "I'm going to add my credit card right now" would be nice. :)
I'll follow up with an email to get details on what you need exactly.
@jimmymackin The goal of Briefmetrics is to have zero-setup reporting. Clearly it's impossible to satisfy *everyone* in that scenario, but I'd like to try! :) If there is an important piece that is missing from your reports, please email me at andrey@briefmetrics.com and I'll see if I can figure out a way to satisfy your weekly curiosity without burdening you with twisting knobs and pulling levers.
@shazow I get it and I think it's a smart idea. The issue is we're tracking activity from landing pages so putting emphasis on bounce rate , pages views is not useful for us.
Appreciate the response Andrey
Google Analytics can be a real pain (we even pushed pageviews to Mixpanel for awhile at StackLead). This is a great summary email that lets you know how you're doing versus the previous month.
I think I was the first user of Briefmetrics (having been a huge fan of @shazow's earlier Socialgrapple) and this is easily one of the most high-value, low-friction services I use. The emails are always super useful and focused on just the most important info. Takes me a minute to scan the email and big issues (like a big referrer falling off) are immediately visible. I rarely even sign into GA any more because the emails have all the info I need week to week. Highly recommended.
Just got my first reports in, learned a few new things right away. Looks like it's going to be really helpful in digging up insights that I might otherwise miss in GA. Good work @shazow! Was also pleasantly surprised to find out I could add a few of my sites for no extra cost. Looks like I'll be picking up a Starter plan at this rate.
