I was exhausted. Midterms were coming up fast, and no matter how hard I studied, nothing seemed to stick. My Notion pages were packed with organized notes, to-do lists, and lecture summaries, but when it came to actually recalling the material, my mind would just go blank. It felt like I was falling behind, and the stress was starting to eat at me. One night, after another grueling study session, I met up with Luca at the campus café. He was my closest friend and my study partner for almost every class. We’d been grinding through midterm prep together, but while I was drowning, Luca seemed surprisingly on top of things. “How are you not freaking out?” I asked, taking a long sip of my coffee. “I’ve been studying non-stop, and I still feel like I’m getting nowhere.” Luca chuckled and slid a small stack of index cards across the table. “Flashcards, man,” he said. “I’ve been using them for years. Helps me drill the key stuff without getting lost in all the details.” “Flashcards?” I frowned. “That’s a bit old-fashioned, don’t you think? I’m using Notion to keep everything organized, but it’s still not clicking.” “That’s because you’re just organizing, not actively learning,” Luca said. “Flashcards make you engage with the material. You should try it. Actually,” he paused for a moment, a spark of excitement in his eyes, “why don’t we combine the two? You’ve got all your notes in Notion already. What if we figured out a way to automatically turn them into flashcards?” I leaned back in my chair, considering the idea. “That would be amazing,” I said, the gears in my mind already turning. “It would save so much time. But how would we even do that?” Luca grinned. “We’ll figure it out together. You’ve got some coding experience, and I’ve been messing around with automation tools. Let’s see what we can build.” And that’s how our project started. Every day, after our regular studying, Luca and I would meet up , laptops open, and brainstorm how to turn my Notion notes into flashcards automatically. Luca and I focused on developing. We’d bounce ideas off each other, each step feeling like a puzzle we were solving together. The first version of the app was rough. We called it “Crammate”—a simple tool that could pull in notes from Notion, analyze the text, and spit out specific question-answer flashcards. It wasn’t perfect, but after some months on working on it and adjusting we got to a good point. We both tested it out, and the difference was night and day. Luca had been right—flashcards made studying feel more active. With Crammate, I wasn’t just organizing my notes; I was engaging with them, reinforcing what I needed to know. If you think there are other main use cases for our product feel free to let us know!

This is a really interesting concept, @gabriele_squeo! I'm curious about the tech behind Crammate. What specific methods or algorithms does it use to analyze the Notion notes? Also, could it accommodate different learning styles—like visual or auditory learners—by suggesting tailored flashcard formats? I'm excited to see how it performs with spaced repetition. Do you have any early feedback from users on its effectiveness for retention? Looking forward to updates!
Gabriele
@oliviajanemiller Thanks for your awesome questions! 😊 Crammate uses a combination of NLP (natural language processing) techniques to analyze your Notion notes and break down the key concepts. Specifically, we’re leveraging text summarization and keyword extraction algorithms to automatically generate flashcards based on your content. As for learning styles, we’re definitely exploring ways to tailor the flashcards for visual and auditory learners by incorporating images, diagrams, or even audio snippets in future updates—so stay tuned for that! Spaced repetition is a huge focus, and we're excited to see how it boosts retention over time. Early feedback from users has been super positive—people are saying it's really helping them retain info better and more efficiently. If you give it a go, we'd love to hear how it works for you! Thanks for your support and excitement. We're constantly working to make Crammate even better! 🚀
