Hey there Product Hunters! 👋
These days, we, freelance designers, creators, founders, and no-coders, work on dozens of projects each month. Not only do we work for our clients, but we are also responsible for our side projects, and each one needs a different branding and a website. It’s a lot of work and our time is limited.
Some of us are lucky enough to afford to hire an awesome employee. But in most cases, we can only rely on ourselves.
Luckily, we live in an era of automation. An era in which you can set something once and do not repeat it every time you need it. However, most of us still repeat ourselves every day.
Let me ask you a few questions about your usual workflow:
👉 Do you type your email address each time someone asks you about it on Slack?
👉 Do you type your company details each time you need to send it to a client?
👉 Do you type your website URL each time you need to send it to someone?
👉 Do you open a recent project that you worked on by going to an app’s dashboard and then selecting it from there?
👉 Do you optimize images for the web by dropping them into tinyPNG (or another similar app)?
👉 If you want to create a new file in Figma, do you create it from the dashboard?
If you said yes to most of these questions, I have bad and good news for you.
The bad news is that you wasted a lot of time in the past by repeating yourself.
The good news is that Design Maestro can change that and you won’t waste more time in the future.
Together with my fellow designer Adam @overment, we created automations that help us in our everyday work.
We called this package 🥁🥁🥁🥁 Design Maestro!

@matsugfx there is something more!
We've designed Design Maestro in a way, so you can create your own macros! 🤯 It's an advanced feature for those who know how to use Keyboard Maestro and have a basic understanding of JavaScript (especially JSON objects).
Design Maestro docs includes a special section which describes how you can create a new macros and use our interface instead of default Keyboard Maestro prompts.
Have fun! 🦾
@matsugfx
Our next macros ideas:
👉 Instantly start a fav Spotify playlist
👉 Design Mode ON!
👉 Convert Markdown to HTML
👉 Convert Markdown to Styled Text (you can paste it to for ex. gmail)
👉 Send Screenshot directly to your iPhone
👉 ZIP selected files with a password
👉 aaaaaand: Connect Macros with MakeHQ scenarios! 🤯 🦾
It looks great!
I thought that I rarely use keyboard shortcuts, but I like to select from a list with a first letter search.
It's exciting to create your macros. Automator is complicated and not very intuitive. It would be great to take it as a basis and simplify it to the level of Zapier, for example.

@andrewmalcolm thanks Andrew! @overment did a great job on this, make sure to check out our documentation after the download. There are guided tutorials step by step for each macro setup 😉
@andrewmalcolm sure.
The fun part is, that you can even connect a Design Maestro macro with Zapier! 🔥
For example if you have a form and its fields, you can add an action "Set Variable to Text" and add a DMWebhook variable with value of an URL generated with "Webhook by Zapier" action.
After that, every form value will be sent to you Zapier scenario 🦾
Hey Mateusz, awesome tool!
Will you make your product available for Windows at any time soon?
Thanks a lot and best of success for you!

@malte_johannes_zander thanks! Design Maestro is an extension for Keyboard Maestro app for macos and we are limited to its engine. However, if Keyboard maestro will be available for Windows anytime soon we will probably release our extension for Windows too 👨💻

This already seems awesome. I haven't used Keyboard Maestro though, been getting used to TextExpander. Do you you think the transition would be long? Any advices about this? Design/Keyboard Maestro definitely looks better though, so I'm willing giving it a chance.
