Hi there, my name is Adam, and I’m the CEO of Dodgeball. In 2017, I joined a budding property tech startup as VP of Eng. We were running a full-service short-term rental company that digitized the entire experience from discovery to check-in to concierge to check-out. We grew, but quickly discovered the ugly side of growth - fraud. We saw that the Ubers and Googles of the world had resources to address fraud in intelligent and innovative ways, but most companies were left under-protected. Identifying the right security tools, integrating these products into various parts of your application, and adapting to constantly evolving fraud proved to be a significant challenge. Every solution created a new gap between solutions, every new feature added attack surface area, and every fraud-related eng ticket delayed product timelines. I thought there had to be a better way. Luckily, my co-founders Patrick and Andrew had experienced similar challenges with fraud and had built systems to address it. We decided to come together and build Dodgeball – fraud stack as a service – so that no company had to deal with the pain of solving for fraud again. Simply put, Dodgeball is the last integration you’ll need to worry about for fraud. @michael_johnson24 We were motivated to create Dodgeball to shut the fraud up. We all come from technical backgrounds and we were sick of solving the same fraud issues again and again. In my previous role, I was tasked with solving fraud for a series A fintech company. As a startup, they didn't focus on fraud issues until they started seeing them - after-all why spend the time and resources solving a problem you don't yet have? The issue is that fraud goes from 0 to 60 very quickly when you start getting noticed! That means you have to research and find solutions to those specific types of fraud, negotiate pricing on those solutions (most don't have open pricing, many don't have open registration), and then you have to integrate and tune those solutions. The whole process takes a long time (we're talking months at least) and you are left playing whack-a-mole as you iterate to a more secure system. Dodgeball is the solution to that problem as it allows you to quickly (I've timed myself at 10 minutes) do a single integration that opens up all the tools you need to resolve fraud. With it you can create checkpoints to protect any feature and iterate-in additional logic and tools as needed without having to touch code.
