Doing Content Right is a resource that covers everything you need to know about publishing online. In a sea of competition, this guide teaches you how to create, write, and scale successful blogs and newsletters, with a new bonus section on podcasting.
👋 Hey Product Hunt!
It's been over 2 years since I launched something here, but I'm super excited to return to the platform with a new project: Doing Content Right.
🤔 You might be thinking... a book about content? Really?
I know. The concept itself is not revolutionary. Content is just a fancy word for communicating and capturing an audience.
But, it's a skill that every creator and every company need to master. And it's not just learning to write or speak well... it's learning to find your differentiator and effectively getting your work in front of the people you care about.
Achieving that goal is harder than ever. The Internet has created an age of infinite leverage. We can create no-code websites in a matter of hours. We can spin up blogs in a matter of minutes.
The lower the barriers, the more competition. So how do you stand out in a sea of people all trying to do the same thing? This resource is my attempt to answer that question.
THE PRODUCT RUNDOWN :)📖 The Book
270 pages covering everything I know about creating, writing, and scaling successful blogs and newsletters to millions of readers. Lots of examples, actionable advice, and little fluff. And if you're turned off by the idea of an ebook...about content... I get it. I created this as a response to a lot of the terrible advice out there. It comes in PDF/MOBI/EPUB.
📝 22 Exercises
Speaking of actionable, there's nothing worse that getting advice and then having no clue how to implement it. The guide is complimented by an exercise book that helps you turn theory into action.
🤗 Creator Community
You'll get access to the DCR community, full of 500+ creators, building their own content empires, including the creators and operators behind many familiar companies, including Ghost, Indie Hackers, Gumroad, Knowable, Creator Lab, Compound Writing, Marketing Examples, and many more!
📹 Videos (Incl. New Podcasting Section)
This is an iterative product, meaning there will consistently be new elements. The newest is a four video segment on podcasting, to compliment the existing video library. There will also be a bonus AMA on Tuesday, April 13 and a one-time creator matching program.
Why me?
📈 My personal blog reached 400k+ pageviews and thousands of subscribers in its first year.
📚 I led a 30-person publications team and operated 6 technical blogs, which reached 600k+ email subscribers and millions of monthly readers.
💌 I currently work for the Hustle, one of the world's largest email newsletters. I've helped them create and scale their premium publication, Trends, to thousands of subscribers and millions in ARR...in under two years.
⭐ Special thanks
HUGE thank you to everyone that has supported DCR so far. I could've never have imagined that over 2500 would have purchased the resource or all of the kind feedback that has come my way. Especially, since it all started with a tweet!
Also, shoutout to @alyssaxuu for the incredible GIF.
PS: To celebrate returning to Product Hunt, you can use the code LAUNCH for 50% off.
@alyssaxuu@stephsmith Congrats on the launch! As someone who just started getting hands on with the brand development via content strategy, this is quite insightful!
@johnsmi52412940 Thank you! GPT-3 will inevitably change the game, but as mentioned in the book, the lower barrier to entry... the more you need to differentiate to succeed. So just having access to GPT-3 will not set you apart (there is enough content out there already -- we don't need more mediocre supply), but how you use it, might.
@stephsmith friends of mine @angrigoryan__ and @doomhammer told you're a great person to talk to and to work with and suggested to invite you to our podcast for community owners to talk about your book and your community.
Next available slot is on June 2, 16:00 CET =) Wanna join?

I can't stop raving about the book. Steph has done an incredible job and I've learned so much from Doing Content Right.
I love that the book is structured to be actionable with exercises included in every chapter to practice what we learn. So valuable. The SEO section is my personal favorite.
Read it once, then read it again. And again.
I bought the book/course several months ago and it is excellent. The presentation of ideas is helpful to get over blockages. For example, the chapter on "personal monopoly" is for people like me who are not comfortable with personal branding. The chapter and videos on SEO are helpful as they focus on the most important things (and not a gazillion ranking factors etc) . I have started doing the exercises and enjoying doing the work.
Congrats @stephsmith on the launch! 🥳
Doing Content Right has been an instant buy for me last year, and it still is one of my favorite books of all time. It delivers incredible value and so many insights regarding where to start as a content creator, how to distribute your content, how to monetize it, and how to grow as a creator.
No matter if you are just starting out as a content creator or if you have been in the game for quite some time, you will definitely find some super useful bits and action points in Steph's book.
Considering the value you get from the book, the 50% discount is an absolute steal! Also, since Steph turned the initial book into a full-fledged resource consisting of the book, exercises, courses, and a creator community.
I can highly recommend it! 🤩
