Drift Sleep App

A friend of mine who was having difficulty sleeping, told me about an app that he started using that was really helping him get a better night's sleep. I checked out Drift for myself and was blown away by the beautiful design and build quality of the app. The sounds are really relaxing and the video makes me want to start travelling again. Can you tell us a bit about the inspiration behind the app and how you created it?

OMG, this app was MADE for me. lol I always nap and struggle to sleep and have trouble searching fo spotify playlists to help me sleep, but this - THIS is amazing!

👋 Hi everyone! I decided to create Drift after my B2B travel startup (think a white-labelled TripActions for corporate travel agencies) was completely derailed as a result of COVID-19. Together with with two great Australian travel agencies, we were set to launch our new platform in March this year, when s**t hit the fan and travel stopped completely... The entire industry was (and still is) scrambling to field the mountain of cancellations and refunds, while simultaneously standing down staff and closing offices. The idea for Drift accidentally came from my partner. A few weeks before Australia went into lockdown, she went on a glamping trip as part of her work where she stayed at a place called Paperbark Camp in Jervis Bay, NSW. When I spoke to her the following morning, she said she had the best sleep of her life. The combination of the rain on the tent roof and being in a semi remote part of the world made it the perfect sleep. It got me thinking - since travel is majorly restricted and people are becoming more restless whilst stuck at home, what if I could somehow blend travel and meditation, and help create a more emotionally charged sleep experience? Imagine watching a video of a place you’ve never been to before, and getting to hear what it would sound like to sleep there. It seemed like a cool idea, so I got coding (React Native FTW).
