Encryptochat

Encryptochat

True end-to-end encrypted messaging.

Encryptochat is a messaging app with a focus on user privacy. Every message is encrypted and decrypted locally with a password that is NEVER sent over the internet, making it true end-to-end encryption. Create a chatroom and share the password via QR code!

What is the difference between Encryptochat and Signal (usually considered as reference for privacy chat app)? And does it have something to do with cryptocurrency :)?

How this is better than Whatsapp? It’s encrypted too.

@elias_lankinen Good question! The difference between Encryptochat and other encrypted messaging apps such as whatsapp is that the encryption key is created by you, locally on your device and never sent over the internet. This means that there is a 0% chance of the key being seen by a malicious party (online). Once you've created a chatroom, you can quickly share the encryption password with someone else via a QR code. The main downside to this approach is that you must be in person, but it is the only way to truly have end-to-end encryption. You can choose to send the password over the internet with another platform, but then the security of the chatroom falls on how secure whatever platform you chose to send the password on. To summarize, Encryptochat never sends your password over the internet. This guarantees that only the people who you directly share the password with will have access to the messages and images sent with the corresponding chatroom. Hope this helps!

How do you address any concerns with respect to the principle "don't roll your own encryption"? Is there a white paper that describes the protocols & ciphers in use? Has the code been audited for cryptographic flaws?
Sam Jones
@alexstahl All good points! Encryptochat uses AES encryption which has been a standard in encryption since 1998. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ad... There is no white paper yet and no audit has been conducted, these are things that I am glad you are showing interest in and we plan on doing in the future!
