My name is Andrew and I was diagnosed with IBS (irritable bowel syndrome) in 2014. The main treatment for IBS is diet (it's called the Low FODMAP diet), and there are literally hundreds of ingredients I had to avoid. I’d spend hours searching the grocery store and checking off each individual ingredient. I knew there had to be a better way.
It turns out I wasn’t alone in desiring a better solution. Most of the people I talked to had been “waiting on something like this for years,” but it just hadn’t been done. So, I got together with engineers, designers, dietitians, and everyday people with dietary needs (ranging from severe corn allergies to histamine intolerances to citric acid allergies) to build the solution of our dreams, Fig.
And after over a year of building it and welcoming 110,000 Fig members to our beta app, we’re excited to finally officially launch Fig in the US!
But more than just an app, we’re building toward a world where everyone can use their Fig wherever you make food decisions – whether that’s within online grocery stores, recipe websites, restaurant menus, and more. It’s our goal to enable food as medicine everywhere and help everyone believe that Food is Good again.
As a person with Celiac, there is always hidden gluten in the things that I eat, which can be detrimental to my health. This app is amazing!! When you check a product, it can easily and definitively tell you about the ingredients, whether its safe for you, and even whether cross contamination during processing of ingredients is a possible issue. This is the best allergen warning app i've tried and I've tried a few. It has an incredibly user-friendly interface which is easy to use, and only takes 4 questions to set up. This app is a total lifesaver for people like me who spend hours in the grocery store checking ingredients. The best part is that this app is free!!
I had been trying to follow the low FODMAP diet for months. I was doing ok but would buy a product I thought might be ok and then it would upset my gut. The product got thrown away because I’m not going to use it again. Then I found FIG. This app is amazing!! I can scan an item at the store before buying it and know if I can eat it. FIG is a life saver. I feel so much better now that I have a much better understanding of ingredients in food.
As someone who has a severe bee pollen allergy, this app literally saves lives. You’d be surprised how many products add random allergens in manufacturing
