So I Built a Thing to Stop Me from Wasting My Life on Reddit Alright, confession time: I'm a professional procrastinator. Like, if procrastination was an Olympic sport, I'd... probably show up late and miss the medal ceremony. Here's how bad it got: I once spent 4 hours reading about how to be more productive. The irony was not lost on me. My browser history was a graveyard of good intentions. "I'll just check Reddit real quick for work," I'd say. Next thing I know, I'm watching a video on how to survive a shark attack. Like If I live in Kansas. I tried everything. Website blockers? Please. I became a pro at finding loopholes. Productivity apps? I'd get distracted setting them up. Those extensions that ask you to list websites to block? Yeah, no. I don't have time for that, and besides, I actually need to use those sites for work sometimes. Just... you know, not ALL the time. Then I had this probably-not-so-brilliant idea: What if I made an AI Chrome extension that could tell when I'm actually working vs when I'm just pretending to work? So, fueled by caffeine and desperation, I built Focus AI. Here's how it (kinda) works: 1. You tell it what you're supposed to be doing. 2. It lets you browse wherever, even the "fun" sites. 3. BUT, the second you click on something totally unrelated to your task, it's all "Nope, not today, Satan." Is it perfect? Hell no. Does it work better than my "yell at myself in the mirror" technique? Surprisingly, yes. Look, I'm not saying it'll change your life. But if you're tired of being your own worst enemy when it comes to focus, maybe give it a shot? You can grab it from the Chrome Web Store (just search for Focus AI). And hey, if you try it and it sucks, please tell me. I'm still figuring this out, and your "this is garbage" feedback might be exactly what I need to hear. Who knows? Maybe together we can build something that actually helps us get stuff done. Or at least reduces our knowledge of random shark facts.

Sounds like a fun way to stay focused! Been there with the endless Reddit scrolls 😅. Just checked out Focus AI on the Chrome Web Store – looks promising! Congrats on the launch.
@sameed_ahmad12
@noahchristopherbennett right, reddit can be distracting but I don't want it to be blocked since I need it for research purposes.

I like the "self-awareness" part and how AI feedback is part of the process. The way it lets you browse but catches you slacking makes a lot of sense! I'm jealous of Focus AI honestly, it can do way more productivity policing AND looks like it understands my procrastination habits lol.
@sameed_ahmad12
@danielharrison thank you, yeah and it really works you only have to let it know what you are working on and that's it.

Haha, love the honesty here! Focus AI sounds super useful for folks like me who get sidetracked easily. Congrats on the launch!
@sameed_ahmad12
@liampatrick yup, tell me about one website that gets you sidetracked, I want to know :)

Quite good. In today's environment where people are not fully engaged in either learning or entertainment, I think this product is very interesting and significant. Have you considered adding invitation links and mutual supervision among friends, along with some form of penalty measures? I think this would make it more compelling. Looking forward to more updates!
