Stop pushing your community between 10 different apps, with different links and logins to get the functionality you want. Bring these experiences to your community instead! Just create rooms and drag in any audio, video, and text chat features you want. All in one place.
Thanks for hunting us @nickabouzeid!
Hey everyone 👋 We're excited to share Garnet with all of you! We realized during the cambrian explosion of video and audio apps over the past year that as communities and businesses moved online, their needs for functionality from these apps got more specific.
We started out working on a social gatherings app with some friends, but then something interesting happened. We got inbound requests from all over asking "Hey, I like your app, we could really use it if it had XYZ feature for our use-case. Could you build that for us?" 🤔
It became clear that 1) people seemed to have a pretty good idea of how they want their communication tools to work, and 2) very few people were able to build their own. So we set out to create a tool that lets anyone build their own custom video, audio, and text chat rooms and pick and choose what features they want, without having to build it themselves! 💪
We then centered the tool around community, because in every use-case we explored, there is always a group of people that trying to stay connected online. Whether it's a creator offering a course to their audience, or a business giving customers a space to help each other, there's a community seeking to stay together. 🤗
That's exactly what Garnet aims to do. Let your community stay together in one place, instead of switching between multiple apps, but still get those unique and special experiences. 💫
@_carlosdp_ Hey there, congratulations on launch.
I like your pitch and product and even created account right away, but I didn't find any reason to move from existing platform I am using.
How is it different from other and what is the feature I am getting that I miss on other platform.
I have searched for documentation but still my bad luck.
Would love to know more in detail.
@knilkantha thanks! We don’t expect people to move over to Garnet immediately, but rather start using it for events instead of using other external video chat apps for community events. Because we support so many different ways to do video chat, it eventually becomes easier to move fully on to Garnet than have an additional platform, when Garnet serves all your needs 😊
?makers This looks to be really good. I'm interested in trying this out. I have several clients who have and are building communities for which this looks like it would be a great platform. If I sign up, where I'm "claiming my name", would that be personal name, or group name?
@wkeving thanks! it's just whatever name you want for the URL, ie. garnet.app/

@_carlosdp_ Thanks. What is the URL for? Directing people to a specific community? Or to my personal profile? Let me ask it this way; can I create a personal account and then setup multiple communities?

@wkeving You can create multiple communities with your account, yes!

This is like subway for online meeting! Choose and pick the features you want and have it enabled in the room. Very cool. Is it free during beta and you'll have a paid plan later?
@kenmoo it's free right now! At the moment, we don't have plans for paid plans. We're experimenting with other monetization methods that scale with customer success 🙂

Interesting product. I have two questions though:
1. Who is Garnet for exactly? What type of community can you bring here?
2. How personal can you make your room with the customization process?
@rubenwolff thanks for the questions!
1) the idea is to be able to fit to the needs of any community online. Most of these are currently forcing Slack or Discord plus 5 other apps into this purpose. But that comes with a lot of friction because they weren’t really designed to be multi-purpose community tools.
Garnet is explicitly built to make it easy to bring members into the space and keep them together!
2) right now, you can choose between a few different room “apps” and some addons that can be composed together like Invite for passcode access, Icebreakers for a random pairing room, etc.
Over the next few weeks, we’ll be allowing you to compose multiple apps in a single room!, so you can really make something special!
The idea is to get more and more customizable over time, but also make getting started with something that works well easy
@benoit_chambon thanks! you can almost think of us as a sort of Notion for video chat. Just like Notion let’s you compose blocks together to create engaging documents, we let you compose video chat features to compose engaging video chat rooms 😊

I used to host all of my community events on Zoom but would always get low engagement & interactivity feedback! Then I met Gail & Carlos who introduced me to Garnet and I will never go back!!
Such a great platform to host literally ANY type of online event or meetup! Congrats on launch 🚀
Thanks so much @peytnhaag !! It always means so much when we find ways to bring those meaningful and unique connections back to communities 😊
