What do you think? …

Joe Previte
Hi PH friends! I’m Joe, the creator of How Much To Make. I came up with the idea after seeing the same type of tweet on X over and over again breaking down how to hit your financial goals. And so I thought, "what the heck, why not build a little calculator for this?” And so I did over the last month, mostly while my daughter was napping and during the nights after my full-time job. I’m also a formula guy. So I thought, if I can turn marketing into a formula, it feels more achievable as an engineer. And so here we are! My goal for the project is for folks to use it to see exactly how to hit their financial goals. Enjoy!

Guys, that's great!!! Thank you so much for this kind of tool :)

This is neat! I'm thinking, if you want to improve on it: add a way to enter custom numbers. While keeping the current default steps for quick estimates, add an advanced option. And you could also account for recurring monthly subscriptions in the product price section, as well as deducting the operational costs of running the business.
Joe Previte
@emnificent I like that! I was trying to think from a UX perspective how that might work. One idea is to make the numbers editable and when you click in, it becomes a number input. Thoughts?
Emilie
@jsjoeio That's precisely what I had in mind, but I didn't want to influence you, haha! For the recurring monthly subscription a simple checkbox should do, and for the operational cost an empty input field on init. What do you think about this?
Joe Previte
@emnificent great idea! just added an issue for it here: https://github.com/jsjoeio/ihcal...

Fantastic. Thank you for taking a little off of our plates with this. Maybe a secondary mode towards creating a smart budget or tracking business expenditures & profits, could be a future add on? :) Thanks Joe!

@rrhoover My apologies I thought this was tagged under AI. Thank you for pointing that out..

@jacob_boston all good! I thought I might be missing something. :)
Joe Previte
@jacob_boston ooo not a bad idea! I'll keep that in mind. Thanks for the suggestion :D

Congrats on the launch! it's really helpful when I start my solo project!

@shashamo Yay! Glad to hear it :)

This is great Joe! 👏🏻 I found it in X and played around with it. One comment would be to adjust the conversion rate. A lot of people calculate 2-3% but most brands are way under that.
Joe Previte
@derkolstad I did not know that! Any suggestions on what percentage I should put instead? Would also love any suggestions on where to read data on real conversion rates in today's world. I've only read about 2% but am still pretty new to tracking it myself.
Derek
@jsjoeio I’ll rustle up some data and send it your way. In my experience… For a free product, a good conversion rate is over 20% and paid over 0.05% (half of 1%) Maybe we can collab and add some data stats to your site. Or a future built out version with industry averages. 🛍 🛒
Joe Previte
@derkolstad That would be awesome! I'm still pretty new to all this but learning so I can improve my own products with data. I'd love that 🤝

Congrats on the launch! Love this. Super motivating. Re: "only 7% of people hit share" I tried it b/c I saw that and see this neat link: https://howmuchtomake.org/?v=100... Pre-seeing that stat - I didn't hit it before b/c usually hitting share on websites results in a strange tweet drafted from my account haha. (I think if it told me it was a free share link, I would have shared instantly.) I am used to products forcing me to signup, or trying to promote themselves, whenever I click share. Another idea: I would love to be able to share a png/screenshot with 1 click. Maybe another button? "Copy Custom Link" and "Copy Pretty Screenshot" ? (e.g. https://share.cleanshot.com/1Jnn... ) Just throwing ideas out there - Congrats on the launch!!!!
Joe Previte
@esus this insight is extremely helpful! Thank you for sharing. I updated the Share button to "Copy Custom Link" and opened an issue about the screenshot button idea (https://github.com/jsjoeio/ihcal...). The new button copy is live. Let's see if this increases the % people click the button! Thanks for the thoughtful suggestions!
