What do you think? …

Colin Campbell
I created However briefly several years ago so I could have a personal news timeline. I wanted to be able to briefly catch up with my interests from my phone and avoid any doom-scrolling or rabbit hole adventures. I was inspired by the minimal style of Hacker News. I can quickly scan for stories that interest me and decide without images or clickbait if I want to pursue the link further. Curating my own list allows me to distance myself from negative feedback loops common to social media news sources. Indeed there are plenty of rss apps that provide similar functionality but I wanted something that required as little management as possible. I think I've delivered a nice balance between control and minimalism. After experimenting with a couple of new features I noticed something I wasn't expecting. People have started using However Briefly even though I haven't shared it formally with anyone. Since I've been finding my was indie dev anyway, I figured However Briefly would be a decent place to start. I seeded the news sources from my personal list and then let llm take over. It's been fun watching what it comes up with and I'm excited to see what happens with more users. Without further adue I present the first public release of However Briefly. I hope it can help you stay informed without distracting you from what actually matters, just like it does for me.

@masump It's based on each user's previous choices, with a splash of randomness. Everyone's personal suggestions are also added to the main list so it grows over time.

Happy to see if this product avoids technique of min reading algorithm for real as it will comes in loops. All the best for the launch.

@ajay27324 Thanks Ajay! The way I've been using it is to just have a quick look when I'm say waiting for a bus or a coffee. Anything I click on is automatically saved to my history for when I want to read it again or dig deeper. I'm rarely compelled to go beyond the first page and I can always use the search feature if I am looking for something specific. I'm happy to report that this has helped me stop wasting time reading sites that are designed to keep me there. I'm fully briefed of my interests and can get on with my day!

@colin_campbell13 True Indeed.
