This would be really useful if I can use it as a web app. Log in with Amazon, get my kindle highlights, syncs to Notion automatically. Would def pay for it.

@traf Hi, thanks for your feedback! I'll take a look into it as a future problem. This one was more about having all my book clippings in one place as apps like Readwise or read.amazon.com don't fetch clippings from third-party/downloaded books - whose data is stored within the device itself.
Jeffrey Jacob
@traf Readwise's Notion integration comes close to addressing your needs here.

@dullblackwall Thanks! Will check it out.

Hey Product Hunt Community! Like most people during the lock-down, I found myself with some newfound time on my hands to cater to some new habits. I made an active decision to take up reading for leisure and learning, with the help of my 2-year-old Kindle. But over time, I did find myself forgetting insights from the books I’ve read. Highlighting passages and taking notes within the Kindle didn't help either because of the unnecessary hassles involved in getting around to revisit it. I wanted to find a way to extract my highlights so that I could access them anywhere and anytime. That's what led me to build this tool. If you read digitally and highlight at all, I bet you would find this tool helpful. You can even tweak the Notion template provided to your liking. Some suggestions based on my use of this set-up from the last few months: ✔️ Highlights export feature is also supported for third-party books and pdf files within your Kindle. ✔️ Use the database as your personal bookshelf using the default Card View on Notion or even a personal Goodreads clone using the Board View. ✔️ Expand on your clippings further by jotting down your thoughts and insights alongside on the same page once you have finished a book. ✔️ Use Notion's in-built export features to export your highlights in HTML, Markdown or PDF formats. ✔️ Options to save the highlighted date, page and location details of each highlight along with book covers sourced using the Google Books API. That being said, there's always scope for more :) Due credits go to Jamie Alexandre's Python wrapper for Notion (https://github.com/paperboi/kind...) - this project would have been impossible to achieve without his package. Also a shout-out to the folks who have contributed to the repo with interesting issues and PRs so far. While I still haven't been entirely successful in making reading an everyday habit 😁, this project has been a delightful experience so far and I'm excited to hear back from the PH community on how to develop this further. Amazing tool! Thank you for release it! I just found out a little problem, with Kindle in portuguese: highlights's location and date aren't added in Notion... I think the problem is date format, that is differente in portuguese.
Jeffrey Jacob
Hi, can you please raise an issue on the GitHub repo, (or email me, whichever is more convenient) with a sample clipping from your text file? It must be a language issue.
Luis Fernando
@dullblackwall Done! Issue raised.

Wow this will be helpful. I stopped taking notes in kindle only because there was no good way to revisit the highlights. I donor use notion yet but can totally start using it for kindle highlights!
Jeffrey Jacob
@sharfunnisa_quadri Thanks, I hope you find it useful!

Looks great! Probably should not have purchased Readwise lmao
Jeffrey Jacob
@brendanshih haha thanks!

Incredible, I just didn't understand if a kindle hardware is needed to work, or can I use "kindle for pc" from amazon?
Jeffrey Jacob
@andredutra you'd have to plug your Kindle device to your system to run the package. It doesn't work for the Kindle apps on any platform.
andré dutra
@dullblackwall got it thanks, do you plan to add it in the future?
Jeffrey Jacob
@andredutra maybe, can't guarantee anything atm :)

Oh, Man, sorry for not being here on the day. This is really cool, will definitely use. I have colour code for my Kindle highlights - yellow for new words (I am not a native English speaker) and blue for interesting thoughts. For the yellows I just need a flash card option to go through them in my spare time and memorise new vocab. The Kindle Flashcards feature kind of allows for that, but that doesn't give you the translation (in my case to Russian), which is bad. So I thought of writing a script to export it somewhere throught the google translate api. Now your thing did a part of job for me. Thanks.
Jeffrey Jacob
@garintheengineer Glad to hear that Ilya! Would love to learn more about your script.
