Imagine your entire life, from birth to death, laid out on a 24-hour clock — what time would it be for you, right now? Life Clock app uses your birthdate and life expectancy to show you what time it is right now on your life clock.

What do you think? …

Hey PH community! This app was a personal project that was inspired by none other than singer/songwriter extraordinaire, John Mayer. During a recent show, he shared that he gains perspective by thinking about his life on a 24-hour clock. This idea resonated pretty deeply with me as I think about raising my two kids and leaving an impact on the world around me. After thinking about this "life clock" idea for a few days, I decided to make a simple app that will calculate your life clock for you. It's based on your birth date and life expectancy (which you can adjust to fit your life). You can also track life clocks for other family or friends. I get it, this idea is polarizing. Not everyone is comfortable facing mortality so casually like this. But I'm sharing because the idea has been especially motivating for me as I think about what is worth me spending my time on. I'd love to hear any feedback or ideas you may have! I've got a running list of things that might be fun to add, but I figured I'd get the base concept into the world and let the rest be guided by people actually using it. Thanks for check it out!

On the one hand, love the idea, on the other, terrified of it hah. You're right it's tough to face your mortality like that, but also it's a very real thing and worth doing. I don't know that I'd want an app regularly showing me that, but i do think it would be interesting to include as part of an annual check in and goal planning process or something, or even incorporating it before making decisions, like how much to contribute to your 401k (i know there are a lot of studies showing if you do physical things to picture an older version of yourself, you're more likely to make better financial decisions, and i wonder if seeing your life on a clock would do the same.) Overall very cool and interesting concept!

@britt_joiner thanks for checking it out! That’s some really good feedback. I’ve definitely been wrestling with that idea, what’s the right time and place to be faced with this data? It’s not exactly something encouraging to start your morning :) But definitely worth considering at key moments. Open to any other ideas you may have!
