Hey everyone 👋, Maxim from Merico here. We are excited to share the free edition of our code analytics with developers around the world. As supporters of ProductHunt for years, we couldn't be more proud to be launching here first! Developers write code for more than just work, however it's a challenge to articulate and celebrate that contribution which can often go unrecognized or remain hidden. How do you translate those contributions into growth, career outcomes, or skill development? We've created a product to solve exactly these challenges! We started Merico to empower developers, and we can think of no better way to do so than to release a version of our product specifically geared towards the individual developer, at no cost, so that's what we've done. This is just the first version of our product—there's lots more to come, and we need your engagement and feedback to keep making this better and more useful. We would love to hear from you. Like the idea, are there any api keys (maybe to integrate with editors as WakaTime does) or is only focused on github/gitlab commit history?

@giacintocarlucci Great question! Right now, our analysis focuses primarily on outcomes (the commits) rather than the process to produce them (tracking coding time like WakaTime). As we integrate more data sources, we might make a live coding assistant with our technology. As for APIs, we're looking to get feedback from the community in terms of what data is most interesting and helpful, and we'll explore how to make them available through APIs. @giacintocarlucci Product head at Merico here. We're looking for actionability, so in this case we'd be interested in a time/impact or time/productivity ratio. What you can do with that is decide to improve your focus, for example by using the pomodoro method, signing out of Instagram, etc.

Our vision for the product is that for open-source software to continue to thrive, that community adopted contribution analytics will become an essential part of the equation to coherently reward and recognize development value. That's our grand goal, to facilitate that. More near-term, we recognize that to succeed in enterprise, we have to earn the trust and respect of developers - we believe that with this product we can build an honest relationship with developers with our free product built for them, so they are supportive and comfortable with our enterprise version when they encounter it in the workplace!

@robertdougherty5 Thanks! As Maxim says, the free developer product can be a funnel for enterprise sales. Also, there may be natural premium features. For example we limit what repos we will process if the cost of computation would be too high. I think willingness to pay in that case would be good. In any event the first hurdle is just making ourselves useful to the community.
