What do you think? …

Hi! My name is Addison. I'm a 17-year-old high school student. I created Summarki because I was wasting so much time reading supplementary or useless information for school. You can summarize any url or text like school readings, news articles, financial documents, anything you want! Please check it out! It's free.

Thanks for sharing. 10 years ago I created a similar tool and one thing I got to tell you: extracting the most “important” sentences to form the summary is your starting point. But to make a dent in this business explore ML and try extracting meaning and creating a paraphrasing system. That’s when it gets interesting :)
Addison Hoff
@f055 I completely agree. I'm not that familiar with ML so this is a pretty basic MVP, and it will definitely improve as I learn more. Even with just this extraction based summarization I can think of so many interesting use cases!

What system or a lib do you use? Tell us more about the tech
Addison Hoff
@vladkorobov yep so right now we use the TextRank algorithim to rank each of the text sentences in the article and then select the most representative sentences. We are working on improving our summarization so it outputs more of a summary statement vs. just extracting sentences.

Congrats on the launch! Are you planning to launch an API?
Addison Hoff
@gertjanwilde Thanks man! I do not plan to launch an API anytime soon. There are a lot of summary apis: https://www.meaningcloud.com/pro... https://smmry.com/api etc. Some features I have planned for the future are: 1. Responsive Site/Mobile App 2. PDF Upload 3. Text Document Download 4. Save Summaries 5. Upload Really Long Pieces Of Text 6. Summarki + News --> Daily Summaries of Top Articles 7. Automatic Question Answering Based On Text Sort Of Like This: https://github.com/vinhkhuc/MemN...
