I am thrilled to announce the MakeWeight! Stuck at home without workout equipment? Do you have some cans in your pantry? That's all you need! With MakeWeight you can make the most out of what you already have at home for your workouts. Before COVID, I was used to going to the gym for my workouts, and without access, I had no weights or fitness equipment in my apartment. It hadn't occurred to me to buy a set of weights, because of the limited space in my apartment. And now, in the midst of quarantine, I couldn't find workout weights available online. What I did have plenty of was cans and non-perishables in my pantry, which I figured could double as weights for my workout before I eat them. The MakeWeight won't take up the space of a whole set of weights in your home or apartment while allowing you to easily install different sized cans as weight. It is also easy to transport (about half a pound without cans), and the environment thanks you for what you're reducing in shipping emissions. One device without cans is about half a pound, and the prototype has worked as a 5lbs pound weight (shown in the video with two large tomato cans). The final MakeWeight will be reinforced and will allow more weight, but since I have not tested it, I don't want to give a range higher than a 5lbs weight. It will be made of plastic and metal parts, which will be extremely durable and sturdy to hold the cans safely in place. The funding will help with hitting the hurdles required for production. Since this product is made using unique plastic and metal pieces, molds need to be made to form these pieces in the manufacturing process. The molds (in injection molding are called tooling) are pretty costly (thousands of dollars per piece), but once these molds are made we can reuse them over and over again to make the parts affordably. I need your help to get the molds made so that we can make thousands of units of the product!
