Firstly, let me just say how much I love the community here ❤. I love how supportive all of you are!
A few months ago, I was too shy to join any tech community, but the positive vibes here changed my mind.
So, to give back to this lovely community, I made a Chrome plugin that makes Product Hunt more fun.
This release offers two features:
⏰ Streak reminder. If the plugin hasn't seen your activity by the end of the day (with a buffer of a few hours), it will send you a reminder email.
🌙 Dark mode
The next release will address things that sadden me about PH: spam, bots, and cheating.
It will:
📈 Help you easily make LinkedIn and X connections, enhancing your reach
📊 Provide analytics: a chart that shows your growth on PH
✉️ Support DM functionality that's not prone to spam abuse (still undecided on this one - what do you think?)
I hope these features that help people grow organically will reduce their temptation to spam and cheat.

@jgani, Big congrats on launching this great plugin! Loving the dark mode feature. Quick thought on the streak reminder—have you considered interactions beyond just visiting PH might be necessary to keep a streak alive? Some of us with long streaks learned the hard way. Excited to see how this evolves!

I saw a write up explaining that a full page refresh is required in order for PH to count as a visit, so the Chrome plugin was coded to reflect this.
What has been your experience?
@jgani, that’s interesting about the full page refresh—I wasn’t aware of that detail. From what I’ve observed, and especially from discussions with the CMO of Jaeves, @hussam_gpt, who is an avid PH user, simply visiting the site, even with a full page refresh, hasn't always been enough to maintain a streak. Our CMO, a long-time PH streaker, has experienced streak losses despite daily visits. It seems that active engagement, like upvoting or commenting, plays a crucial role in streak continuation. It might be worth exploring how the plugin could encourage or track such interactions to help users keep their streaks alive. Appreciate your efforts to make our PH experience even better!

I'm a light-mode addict but pretty sure I'm alone haha so dark mode option will probably be appreciated by lots of people here.
How does the streak reminder work? Sends a system notification or something else?

The Chrome plugin notes your visit to PH and sends a ping to the server (only once a day). If the day is almost finished, and the server hasn't received your ping, it will send you a reminder email.
Awesome alternative to Dark Reader for PH. Is there any possibility to add GitHub login and perhaps even Magic Link?

But due to Sidebery and the hackability of the interface with CSS I use Firefox + Sidebery to get the sidebar with vertical tabs I always dreamt of. Is the Firefox extension coming? Please? 😁
