Hi everyone, I am Jesper founder of Venn, a tech startup out of Bergen, Norway with the humble mission of connecting new friendships, mitigating loneliness and bringing people together all over the world. We discovered that people spend more and more time alone compared to previous generations, more people live alone, work from home, do not have social contacts with their neighbours, and an increasing number of people experience loneliness and isolation. With these problems in mind, we developed Venn, both for friendship meetings and connected to group activities. Matching people based on their interests and preferences, and suggesting suitable activities in the immediate nearby vicinity. The solution staring us in the face is that we all need to hang out more. And apply tools for connecting and engaging socially where we are, when we are there, combined with something to do. And designing them in such a way that the threshold for engaging is so low that it feels easy and effortless. Simply find ways to get people together in activities, and let nature take care of the rest. We soft launched in late 2021 and have reached over 20.000 new friendships connected prior to any marketing or advertising efforts. We already see an impact of the tools being adopted and put to use, it seems that a lot of people have been wanting and missing for non dating activities. Hey, it's always motivating to see fellow builders making social apps to bring people together (how many times have people told you bUt WhAt AbOuT fAcEbOoK tHo haha). People are lonelier than ever and they don't want to do what their friends do, but find friends who do what they do. I love the mission that you guys have because it is a problem I am unfortunately intimately familiar with 🙈 We're building a social platform to bring people together with movies and shows. Any tips or learnings you can share on creating network effects and how you bring users in?

@tarun_karthikeyan Haha I am very familiar with the "what about the facebook" comment, I definitely know what you mean;) Sounds like a great idea you have, common interest in terms of movies and shows is a great way of matching people, I would say! Building a user base from scratch is always a tricky part for app/social platforms developers. It is difficult to pinpoint exactly what factors have been most important for our user growth so far, but it seems to me that the two most important sources of user growth is 1) people searching for apps like Venn (google, app store and Play), and 2) word of mouth (due to users actually finding new friends and actually meeting up). Another important factor I believe is our design, making it intuitive for users who they should use the app. We have not focused anything on marketing, 99% focus on the product. I hope this helped you a litte:)

It looks pretty interesting to use! I believe that such networks are necessary while everyone has some sort of social network "for everything" and it doesn't work anymore. Great stuff! Going to try myself :)

A remote working solution.

I feel like, after the pandemic, everyone's social skills are at an all-time low. A product that encourages people to explore new social situations and connect with more people is definitely welcome. I'm excited for Venn and curious about what it has to offer.
