Hi everyone! 👋 I wasn't planning to make an open-source text editor, I was just working on this as a side project for myself when I started noticing more people would be interested in using it. I hope you enjoy it and feel free to contribute too!
Vivek Pola
@charlieyllobre Giving me the IA writer vibes. Nicely done!
Carlos Yllobre
@vivekpola Thanks Vivek! I am glad you like it! 😊

Thanks Carlos for having created and shared this cool, minimalist text editor. I like it and will share it with my readers. P.S.: I would love to see one tiny icon to hide the vertical command bar leaving only what you write in view. I also think your "Print" function icon should replaced with a more appropriate icon. What I see is a download icon. Keep up the great work Carlos!

@robingood Hi Robin, I am glad you like Writty and thanks a mill for the feedback! Yes, the download icon was more aspirational, since I would like to export the content in more formats other than print the PDF in the future. Also I really like the idea of hiding the command bar. Will add it to the pipeline! 💪
Carlos Yllobre
@robingood just added the 'Hide toolbar' feature to Writty. If you move your cursor to the left side of the toolbar you will see the magic 😉

@charlieyllobre wonderful! Thanks Carlos. *I have added a short review on tools.robingood.com and on the Chrome Store too.
Carlos Yllobre
@robingood Oh wow! Thanks Robin! Really appreciate it. I have been working on a paid desktop app that works offline which I will be launching soon, I also made a Firefox extension available a couple of days ago. These extension regardless of the app are and will remain free of course. Thanks for your review! 😊

Thanks, this will replace mytextarea :D
Julien Le Coupanec
@charlieyllobre is there a way to avoid the chrome extension to be displayed when we open a new tab? I would rather see my product hunt extension displayed.
Carlos Yllobre
@lecoupa Hi Julien, that's a good call, I will work on it and update it in the Chrome store as soon as possible. Stay tuned! 💪
Carlos Yllobre
@lecoupa hey Julien, you would like to know that the Chrome extension has been updated 😉
Julien Le Coupanec
@charlieyllobre Thank you!
Carlos Yllobre
First of all, THANK YOU for all the support, contributions and the good feedback received from the community. Here are some updates made to Writty today: • Save content as HTML • Saves content as TXT • RTL Support • General Improvements and bug fixing I'll work on making the chrome extension to only open Writty if you click the icon, instead of opening it with a new tab. Stay tuned for more!
Carlos Yllobre
Update: The Chrome extension has been updated to version 1.4. Now you only open Writty if you click the icon on your browser's toolbar. Thanks again and enjoy Writty!

Can the js be applied on a textarea?
Carlos Yllobre
@yuzumetrix Thanks for the feedback Gergely, glad you like Writty! 😊 I think it is possible to apply the js to a textarea with some modification to make sure everything works.
Gergely Varga
@charlieyllobre you know, I will try to do that. This looks so good, I have been thinking about it all day. I want this in a project. haha
Graeme
yeah! Congrats on the launch here!! 🚀
Carlos Yllobre
@graeme_fulton Thanks Graeme! 😊
Ryan Wilson
This is awesome! Very simple and clean. Did you use a library for the editor functionality or build it yourself?
Carlos Yllobre
@ryan_wilson6 Thanks Ryan! I built it myself from scratch as a way to refresh my javascript knowledge (heavy use of stackoverflow and -don't know how- many tutorials for each piece and functionality, I also got some help from some friends. I think I lost some hair in the process but it was worth it 😅
Ryan Wilson
@charlieyllobre I hear you. I'm doing the same for my current project. It's pretty wild. I used to hate writing tests. Testing has become my best friend for this.
