It took me 8 months to go from that tweet, to doubting if there was a market, to re-adjusting the concept, to this. A lot of the time was simply me figuring out what I actually wanted to build and what the definition of a startup retreat was for me and what people would want me to build. Which wasn't clear for a long time.
After having a dinner with Dutch startup kids @bramk@marckohlbrugge@basprass and @emieljanson kept bugging me if it was finished yet, I finally did a sprint and build this in the last week by working on it non-stop.
I've deliberately chosen to not just limit to startup retreats, but also retreats for tech workers like Surf Office and even travel groups for digital nomads like Hacker Paradise and Remote Year. Which in a way are like "startup" retreats. It's still very early days for this market and I wonder where it's headed. So not pinning the definition down too precisely will probably be useful.

Oh this is awesome! What is your target user demographic? I'm assuming most large companies have dedicated HR teams to find the best retreat locations.
@realsimonburns Hey Simon! Good question! It's a bit broader than just startups. When I started to make this I focused on retreats for startups first, but found out that the market for those (e.g. full-serviced retreats) is not really there (yet).
Instead I took a bit of a broader definition and aimed for retreats for tech workers doing startups, or part of startups. That means coliving and coworking retreats in tropical places for remote workers and digital nomads. Of those, there's starting to pop up a lot!

@realsimonburns I'd actually be interested in seeing how many large companies actually use their HR departments to look for retreats like this. On a parallel note, fully outsourcing the HR department is something that I want to see. @levelsio, great job on putting one piece of this puzzle on the board!
@realsimonburns@levelsio That's a great one Simon - in my experience, I saw teams in some larger Tech companies (for instance, Google) that could choose where they wanted to go and gather for their retreats, for small teams (>20 people) there was very minimal guidance - as far as I knew :)
@tudstanciu Yes! Agree, I wanted to do that first, but it's hard to boostrap that from the start. I don't have a sales team and that's typically something you'd need to e.g. contact Google etc. to sell a retreat.

Beautifully done, and I love anything that gets people to move! One small bug: it seems like the map might not be working on some retreat landing pages. Looking at Surf Office in Lisbon, Portugal, it's showing me a map of San Diego.
