We all love a good demo video and have experienced how much they can make or break interest in a product. As you prepare to launch on Product Hunt, consider creating a video as part of your marketing plan. A good demo video can:
- Show your product in action
- Create a connection with viewers
- Provide entertainment that's shareable
Our team recently met with the team at
Vagabonding Media and asked for their best tips on making product demo video that stands out from the rest:
#1 Create high-quality video content to showcase your product.
Another stand-out example is the
video that
Descript produced, where their CEO is building a connection with viewers as well as live-demoing the product.
#2 Pay attention to audio quality
Using a separate microphone and syncing your audio can improve your quality significantly. It doesn't always have to be fancy to work. Using your iPhones or creating a
Loom are a simple and great options for audio recording. See the
video Reap Pay made as an example.
#3 For the best video engagement, make sure to include the following elements:
- Hook: Start with a bold statement. "You won't believe... "You will want to hear this if... etc.
- Problem/Challenge: Name the undeniable shift in the world that creates stakes for innovation and urgency for your users.
- State what you believe will happen if users don’t adapt! How will your product help users avoid these pitfalls?
- Outline and showcase your product. Give a quick demo or show an example use case. Be as specific as possible.
- Include an actionable tip for your users.
- End with a call to action: “Give it a try / Give us a try / Check us out on Product Hunt”
#4 Make sure your video answers the following questions:
- Why did you build this product? What pain point are you solving?
- Who is this product for?
- What advantage do users of your products have over others?
- What are some industry pitfalls that users will avoid by using your product?
- What developments in the world / markets make your product relevant right now?
#5 Post your video(s) on all your social media channels and link to your Product Hunt page.
Visualize Habits leveraged footage from a public figure and remade a
video that was entertaining and easy for viewers to re-share. Notice that the final screen has a clear call to action.
