What do you think? …

Matt Cramsie
Hi again. I'm happy to announce we are live on Kickstarter and back on Product Hunt with the next generation of the Tiny Tower. We have relaunched following the feedback we got from our first campaign. V2.0 is an improved product - thinner when folded, lighter and now in 4 colours. Happy to answer any questions of course! Cheers - Matt
Elizabeth
The fold-down portability of this is absolutely the feature that makes this. Nice, clean, simple, matte metallic designs, are great - but the ability to very easily take this anywhere makes this worth purchasing, rather than just sticking a few Rand novels underneath it to git-r-done.
Matt Cramsie
@elizabethhunker Thanks Elizabeth. Yes old book and magazines are one of our biggest competitors! We think the Tiny Tower looks a little more finished ;)
Christopher Fahey
@elizabethhunker Best use of Rand novels I've ever heard.

Fantastic! I've been looking for a solution like this. I believe it would also work well on a plane. Because you are much closer to your laptop in an airline seat, the strain is even worse. Have you tested the Tiny Tower on a plane yet?
Matt Cramsie
@stephenchip Hi Stephen - thanks for your feedback! The Tiny Tower is probably not going to be ideal on a plane - unless you're flying up the front ;) Because the Tiny Tower elevates the screen the seat in front will likely interfere with your screen position, especially if that seat is reclined backwards. Ergonomically speaking the best solution in economy/coach is probably a tablet attached to the rear of the seat in front if possible.

Great jobs guys! Love the portability of it. Congrats btw you already reached your goal! Cool to see good projects succeding. Question: does your product improve in any way my laptop cooling? Can I consider it as a passive cooling pad?
Matt Cramsie
@quentin_malgaud Thank you and yes! Air will flow freely all around your laptop when it sits on top - much more so than when it sits directly on a desk or table.

I love the folding design, but I personally don't fully understand the "shelf" type of laptop stand. meaning, where the laptop sits on a horizontal surface thats (more or less ) parallel to the desk. I know a lot of laptop stands have a similar design, but from a usability standpoint, I still don't get it. More so than height, I feel distance to the laptop screen is a more important feature of any good laptop stand. If this were able to tilt the laptop base down (thereby bringing the screen closer to your eyes), it would quite possibly be the best laptop stand ever known to mankind.
Matt Cramsie
@wuss Hi Noah. Thanks for your comment. Ergonomically speaking (if you put your arms out horizontally in front of you) a screen should be approximately the same distance away as the palm of your hand. With the keyboard basically horizontal there is still plenty of room in front for the keyboard and mouse. I use mine (15" MB Pro) this way with a separate keyboard and there's no problem in terms of distance. The height is actually the critical change that prevents people from hunching and placing unnecessary pressure on their neck and backs - especially when we all use laptops for extended periods of time. PS Love your quote at the end :)

I like this a lot in theory, but the portability is kind of negated for me by its need for an external keyboard and mouse/trackpad.
Matt Cramsie
@blake Hi Blake. Yes - a laptop on its own is by definition more portable and for short periods of time that's fine, but for people using them for hours on end (as many of us do) and to fix the ergonomic issue there's nothing that can beat physically separating the screen from the keyboard. Obviously the ideal solution is a separate monitor - but that's not very portable ;)
Fredrik Olovsson
It's a killer feature that it can fold down! One question: Is it sturdy enough to type on? (I usually stand up with an external display behind & above the laptop, which I type on, i.e. no external keyboard)
Matt Cramsie
@mrolovsson Hi Frederik. Killer indeed! The stand is designed to be stable for typing whilst on it - although it's not designed for your palms or hands to rest on it in use - occasional typing with fingers is no problem. If standing the Tiny Tower should be placed on a standing height desk as shown in the "Features" section on our Kickstarter page. We don't recommend standing if the Tiny Tower is placed on a standard (seated height) desk as using it this way doesn't solve the ergonomic requirement of separating the screen and elevating it from the keyboard. Hope that helps!
