sidebar might be better, as it seems like lately everyone's aesthetic preference leans towards having a sidebar.

I prefer a layout that prioritizes ease of navigation and minimalism, allowing users to find what they need without being overwhelmed. A clean, intuitive design that adapts well to different screen sizes ensures a seamless experience across all devices.

Our collaboration interface viewflip is a native sidebar integration for windows and macOS. Officially available from May 14, since we are ending with our 6 month beta stage. 🚀 With viewflip you only need two clicks to share any application to others for instant collaboration. They can not only see what you’re doing on their own screen, but instantly interact with their own mouse cursor and keyboard if required - whether you’re in the same room or on the other side of the world. 🌐 Feel free to follow us and get notified: viewflip.app

It depends on how complex your product is. If you design a SaaS product that contains multiple products and feature with few layers of navigation, I'd prefer sidebar for scalability. Additionally, it makes better use of screen real estate.

I think this definitely depends on the content. Sidebars are useful for filtering content or pages with many section and long-form content like some Blogs. But for a landing page, or a hero type site, or an editorial style site a top navigation or sticky bar is more aesthetic (to display full-screen images or video) and also is more useful IMO. If the page is too long and you don't want to use a side bar there is always the option of having a "take me to the top" button, not ideal, but works

Sidebar mostly. And for a few instances, it can blend with top menu. In any case, the design should be consistent.
