When is the right time to reach out to people because of the Product Hunt launch?

2 years back in June 2022 we started observing this platform and I built the community from someone else's account. I start with building the community 1 month before the launch (December 2022). Yeah, we weren't registered for almost 6 months (research). But reaching out to people via DMs or so... I didn't do that. In November 2022, I created my account. A month after that, I launched... Results don't matter now, but I was quite wrong with that... πŸ€ Community is something you should build long-term = earning trust. πŸ“£ Speaking about your PH campaign to the herd of people is another thing = awareness. (like posting on your social media) πŸ’β€β™€οΈ Speaking to individuals is also something different = asking for participation. (DMs) When do you usually start with the DMs part (speaking to individuals)? Personally, I would start at least 1 week before with DMs because when you DM the same day or day before the launch, that person may not be available on LI or so. + I prefer building long-term relationships via DMs but it has its limitations. WBY?

personally, I would start reaching out to makers 45 days / 1 month before the launch in DMs : - to create awareness around my product and brand - get support (through notify button) and insights ahead of time - helps reach more people (because of Linkedin DM daily limitations) And a few days before the launch, follow up with the makers who replied to my DMs to remind them of our upcoming launch. Because the goal is to build relationships, I feel it's better to engage early and not feel salesy right before a launch only. Note : you can automate the Messaging sequence / follow ups with outreach automation tools.

@toni_pm yeah, the "Notify me button" thing should be done sooner. DMs related to link – like reminding the certain day – I would reach out to that person 1 week before like "Hey, this week (day) we gonna launch, can I count on you? + message that launch day. Re automation – do you mean emails and public posts? Or?

@busmark_w_nika nice strategy. By Automation , i mean using automation tools for multichannel campaigns : linkedin invite / DM / email / DM follow up / DM reminder / Emails etc

@toni_pm aaa, do you know any specific posting tools? We used to have Kontentino for social media posting.

@busmark_w_nika for multi channel DM outreach, I use Β« La Growth Machine Β». If you focus only on LinkedIn, Expandi is good for DM outreach. Or Taplio for content creation/posting.

@busmark_w_nika @toni_pm These are great tips Toni! Super cool system, expandi has been helpful for prospecting in the past for me as well - great tool and awesome founder who's bootstrapped an awesome product.

hmm that's interesting. But what would be the interest of the people you are reaching out for support, meaning do you offer them something in return, like a free trial may be or someting else?

@sansa_grey Yeah, there was a free trial for both products. I am thinking about what to create next – maybe some marketing course with a few lessons for free and then some premium. Actually have a loooooot of ideas for products, but somehow juggle everything πŸ˜€

Launching soon!
The best time to reach out is a few days before your Product Hunt launch, allowing you to build anticipation and gather initial support. Make sure to follow up with a thank-you message post-launch to keep the conversation going and deepen relationships.
