Totally agree with this list. It also took me a much longer time than I'd like to admit to realize that many of the threads and commenters I'm interacting with are... *whispers* bots.

I think this question gets more interesting when you exclude mobile phone, laptop, etc. For me I'd say my moleskine notebook. I still find writing in analog is valuable -- I basically keep a "work journal" of sorts where I jot down thoughts, ideas, action items, follow-ups, etc. under each day. I've been doing it since 2017. Basically outsourcing my long term memory.

I'd sidestep the premise. I think the biggest misconception I often have about unplugging is that there's anything I am *actually* missing out on. I've gone stretches of years, months, etc, off ig, twitter/x, pods, etc. and its extremely rare that I come back and discover that I've missed something that truly impacts my life.

A decade or so ago I left my first finance job to start a strength and conditioning business. Ran it full time for five years before going back to finance. Was exhilarating and stressful (two sides of the same coin), but great lifestyle for early/mid-20's. There are seasons for everything in life, and long term potential was pretty capped.

I'm still pretty bad, but I've been diving deeper into the game of backgammon lately and been enjoying that. Fun and intellectually stimulating side quest from the usual maker menu of building the next project or learning the next framework.

I've wondered about this before. I think I've arrived at the conclusion that its good that they don't. I feel like if they keep adding chat features, it risks becoming distracting and ultimately converges to the ux of any other community type app.
