Hiring your first engineer
Hey folks,
I'm writing a guide on how to hire your first engineer, especially as a non-tech founder.
Let me know what questions should I address first?

Great idea and decent execution. I saw some other guys livestream the whole experience of building the thing. Could be quite useful for #buildinpublic movement.
I challenged myself to build a product in less than a day. I made it.

At some point, you'll find out that you can make money in many different ways.
And if you don't go for the FMF, you'll end up running a business you're not passionate about.
So if you run a business, why would you create yourself a full-time job you don't like doing?
How do you navigate the idea maze?

I'd go as far as actually make it part of the company's policy.
if you're overworked or if you have a burnout it will end up costing you more than you think.

Last year we went in a very non traditional way for the Bay Area, and became one of few faith-centric tech businesses.
After spending 15+ years in tech, I can see how impactful the decision of putting people and values first can be.
Which is that one fascinating thing you have done to energize your company culture?

I agree with @surender_singh, offering freemium product helps to break the ice.
also reddit/twitter helps to build early relationships and address the need of your audience.
Also recent trend is community > audience
Founders/makers, how did you discover your first 100 early believers?

I can relate to the 1st mistake, eventually that's what stayed in my mind at 2am.
Reason: I was out of the content ideas and needed some sleep.
In general:
If you address your launch as a community event, you'll have much better chances to stay on course. This is what ProductHunt team did themselves in the early days.

I'm curious to see what community thinks too!
On my end I think there are two good reasons:
1) Customers have been asking you for a feature/product a lot, and you addressing that need by releasing it publicly (Spotify pods)
2) You have a way to "wow" your users, and you release it too (OpenAI)
How not to do a launch:
- Like Facebook does, A/B test your users until they are sick from their ads 🤣
