About
Jonas Honick's remarkable four-decade career as an educator and basketball coach has profoundly influenced numerous students and athletes in New Kensington, Pennsylvania, and beyond. Born into a family where hard work and community were paramount—his father, Irvin, served as a World War II sergeant, and his mother, Mary, supported the war effort in a factory—Jonas inherited a robust set of values that would guide his professional and personal life. During his time at Valley High School in New Kensington, Jonas excelled academically and athletically, a dual success that paved the way for his postgraduate year at Choate Rosemary Hall. Here, he earned the David T. Layman Award, recognizing his excellence in both spheres and setting the stage for his future endeavors.
