Funny enough - I used to work in anticounterfeiting. For physical brands, authenticity was in the quality and innovation/new trends. Also, stay clear of certain countries where it is not illegal to steal IP. If you're worried about an online product idea, execution is everything - chances are someone has thought of something similar, but can they actually go do it? Probably not.
