@draptis no problem Jim... it does the job for me though I do want to try the other suggestions here.

i was using bear, the mac notes app, dropbox paper, google docs..I dunno if there's one best, just seems to depend on the scenario for me - i even use the wordpress blocks editor

Yea Bear is the king of note taking! Sometimes I even write my blog post on Bear because it's both powerful and distraction-free. Btw my use case was to find an editor to write markdown README.md files. I bumped into Markdown Editor and it looks like kind of nice. Thanks for the useful recommendations @graeme_fulton anyway! 😇

@draptis yeah the one thing I don't really like to use for editing is markdown though - i always find it confusing to export to wordpress where I host my posts. Although Bear does have wordpress export which I didn't try yet

@graeme_fulton you got a point for sure! Mainly I use markdown for a rough initial version and then polish the final article on Medium or wherever I end up publishing it 😅

Love using Typora (https://typora.io/), I don't know if this is the best one out there, but it fits my needs 100%.

I use https://github.com/yoshuawuyts/vmd tool for viewing markdown preview. The main advantage of this tool is it outputs the same preview like Github markdown preview. It also has syntax highlighting for the code blocks inside markdown.
