A lot of bots! PH should only consider people with verified LinkedIn.

I see a lot of fake profiles on PH nowadays. I hope they do something about it. How many of you feel the same?

I am not a bot.

I support the idea of having some measures to verify that only genuine people and not bots can access Product Hunt, but I don’t think using LinkedIn profile as a criterion is wise, because LinkedIn might block the profile for various reasons that they find valid.

Verification is a great idea if it can be properly automated... LinkedIn could be one way but not everyone wants to connect accounts together.
Maybe verifying is one way to help reduce bot traffic but another could be tracking behavioral data and discovering/uncovering trends that are "obviously" bot traffic.
If that data was tracked for known bot traffic already, it can be mapped out to start finding more with the same patterns or at least flag some that are suspicious.
Not an easy task but could help if it's implemented correctly.

How can we not block the way for new users and cause mistakes while fighting bots?

I am seeing a lot of bots from Dallas. Their intro look same and they are nowhere to be found on internet by their name.
How do you spot bots?
@charlie_choi3 Sometimes i see replies to my comment "As an AI Language model, i cannot... " haha

Launching soon!
@charlie_choi3 @diana_iun You're right! How some products always peak at the top is even more surprising!

@charlie_choi3 It's not very hard to see the patterns!
@diana_iun that nervous moment when you use an AI-generated pic because it’s fun to do and not because you’re a bit 😂

Totally agree, noticed some funny comments on our launch recently.

As an I AI language, I agree with you.
Agreed. Should they take the X example and charge $1?

Ya definitely I’ve been seeing quite a bit of GPT like responses. I guess I gotta start using my LinkedIn not to get marked as a bot😂
@maxjacobs Yeah, they added 'GPT Content' under report options. I report 2-10 comments on launches a day that are just obvious GPT lol.

I don’t think that’s the solution because not everyone uses LinkedIn. I don’t, but I’m not a bot. I think the way you can reduce that is through looking at interaction, comments etc.

Absolutely! It's crazy how LinkedIn has become a verification badge for professionals globally in the last years!
Yes, I completely agree, but there should be some other way as well, Only Linkedin is not a good option. As, some people don't use it as much in saas as much they prefer building on X.
Seriously?! Even on PH?? That sucks. I fight bots daily on Twitter (not ready to call it X yet ugh). I hope this doesn’t turn into that
What if someone has no LinkedIn... 🤔
@neelptl2602 I think maybe email verification, phone number or whatever... but in here i still agree with you that connecting to LinkedIn should be a must, i was just curious...
Definitely agree. PH should consider some sort of verification, as I keep seeing more of them each time.
And also a small work on the way people upvote products...
There's always great products down in the rankings.
It should be about the quality/ value proposition but not because one has a great community.
@mathis_vella That's one of the most important things to evaluate immediately.
@mathis_vella Yeah, agreed.
I think to participate in daily product voting and commenting, accounts should have had to be active (upvote/community participation) for the last 2-3 days.
Otherwise, I've seen huge audiences essentially get mobilised to create a bunch of accounts and upvote haha. No bots needed.
Absolutely! With such verification, it will be easier to make useful connections 🙂
