An under-appreciated advantage of building in public

Hiring becomes a tad bit simpler when you are sharing your journey publicly.
Being a lean and early-stage startup, we want to work with people with the same intent. And it isn’t easy to find someone with the right competencies and intent.
We recently put up a post to hire a product designer on a contract basis. This is to improve the builder and end-user experience at NotionApps (https://www.producthunt.com/products/notionapps).
I was pleasantly surprised to see experienced designers reaching out to me and wanting to contribute to our journey. They understood our resource constraints and were very accommodating.
When I asked them why they were going out of their way to take this up, three reasons came up in the conversations.
👉 A unifying interest: Their love for Notion while using it at work and for personal productivity
👉 A conviction about the problem: They understand the gaps in Notion and the need for an app builder
👉 A belief in our solution and the team: They appreciate the progress we’ve made so far and trust the roadmap
All of which was easy to communicate because they were already following our journey.
