Note- talking about actual utility, not hype! Whenever you go to any NFT event, meetup or conference, one common theme is that traditional web2 gaming companies are ALL embracing web3; they are all doing something in the NFT space, etc. But, in reality, if you look at any AAA game studio or even Indie game studios out there, very few are even considering web3. In fact, they want to shy away from NFTs, especially after the FTX debacle! Do you think they are missing out by not doing something in web3?

Are you a Peloton enthusiast? Love the idea of having some extra entertainment while you work out? We hear ya. With the rise in popularity of streaming services like Netflix, it’s no wonder that so many people are looking for ways to watch Netflix on their Peloton Tread trainers!

The adoption of web3 and NFTs in the gaming industry is a topic of discussion, and there are differing viewpoints on its utility and potential benefits. It's important to note that each gaming studio has unique circumstances, strategies, and considerations when adopting new technologies. While it may seem that traditional gaming companies are embracing web3 at NFT events and conferences, the reality is that most AAA game studios and even Indie game studios still need to be more cautious or hesitant about fully embracing web3 and incorporating NFTs into their games. It can be attributed to several reasons, including concerns about regulatory issues, scalability challenges, market volatility, environmental impact, and the negative publicity associated with certain NFT-related incidents. However, it's worth noting that some game studios have successfully integrated web3 and NFTs into their games and have seen positive results in user engagement, player ownership, and monetization opportunities. These studios are leveraging the unique properties of blockchain and NFTs to create innovative gameplay experiences and economic models. Whether traditional gaming companies are missing out on web3 depends on various factors, including their target audience, game genre, and long-term strategic goals. While web3 and NFTs offer exciting possibilities, it's essential for game studios to carefully evaluate the potential benefits, risks, and alignment with their core gameplay and business models. Ultimately, the decision to adopt web3 and NFTs should be driven by a thorough understanding of the technology, its implications, and the specific goals and priorities of the game studio. It's a complex and evolving landscape, and different studios may have different approaches based on their unique circumstances and perspectives.

By exploring avenues like blockchain-based ownership, decentralized economies within games, or integrating NFTs for in-game assets, companies could tap into new revenue streams and enhance player engagement. For example, imagine a game like CarX Drift Racing 2 offering a full cars list as NFTs, allowing players to truly own and trade their virtual vehicles. This not only adds utility to in-game items but also creates a secondary market where players can monetize their investments.
