[ChangeLog] September 2 Changelog — Draft Launches and Scheduling Updates

This Wednesday, we'll be rolling out an update to the submission flow. Historically, at the end of the submission flow, you could either Launch Now or Schedule for a future time. Going forward though, we're going to replace the Launch Now option with a new Create Draft option.

This change is based on consistent feedback we've gotten from Makers who either accidentally launched their product too early or who wanted to be able to see a complete version of their launch and collaborate with their team on it before scheduling.

Creating a Draft

Creating a draft will give you the opportunity to see a complete version of your launch without needing to select a launch date. It also means that you'll be able to share and collaborate on the launch with your fellow Makers, something that's not possible when the launch is in the submission flow stage. These new draft launches won't be indexed on the site, so you don't have to worry about others finding it. Whenever you're ready, you can schedule the launch for the date of your choice.

Scheduling Updates

Scheduling will also be changing slightly. It will work similarly to how it has in the past, but there will no longer be a time selection. Time zones can easily get confusing and with our global community of Makers, we've seen many launches get scheduled for the wrong time or even date. Now, you can pick the day you'd like to launch and your post will automatically go live at midnight PT, ensuring it gets a full 24 hours on the site. And if you do need to delay a launch to a specific time, you can e-mail us at help+launch@producthunt.com.

These changes to the submission flow will help cut down on accidental launches, reduced time on the site, and give our team extra time to review launches and occasionally provide feedback before they go live.

Pre-Launch Dashboard

As a reminder, if you haven't already seen it, we also recently rolled out a new Pre-Launch Dashboard that serves as your home base for Draft and Scheduled launches.

I’ve been through the launch process both before and after these updates, and I have to say, they’re great! Everything feels much clearer and easier to follow 👍🏼. Just a small piece of feedback though—you might want to check for consistency with some of the terminology across the product and comms. For example, after I posted a Teaser I received an email saying I had successfully been published on the Upcoming page, which made me wonder if that was the same as the “Coming Soon” page. This could cause some confusion for users.

@rajiv_ayyangar The Create Draft option is exactly what we need to eliminate those "oops, I launched too early" moments

Hey Rajiv (@rajiv_ayyangar), as always, appreciate all the fresh updates that you and team ship to keep things interesting at Product Hunt. Creating drafts and having 12:01 PST as the default launch time is a good update. Thanks for sharing. :) I also noticed the sub-categories field was removed?

SADIK KASIMOGLU
i dont undertan what the benifits of these features if the customer care is very bad and we are active but when we launch our apps which fit all required but your team put it at the all list ? should we pay for featured list because most of apps is very weak and good apps listed at all ? or should we build realtionship with one inside PH to support us ?
SADIK KASIMOGLU
is it correct ? your team killed our project and how many enrepuners gone because of that ?
SADIK KASIMOGLU
we want to know how you filter the featured especially more than 50% of apps is MVPs and good apps inside ?
SADIK KASIMOGLU
we need to fix issues not add more features
SADIK KASIMOGLU
we active here 3 years as the Ph is our land to support and vote the best apps but what happen here
SADIK KASIMOGLU
we read the guidlines 24 times and 30% of apps featured not fit on it and when we did they killed us and come at the 7th and if listed we will be the first

Creating drafts and the pre-launch dashboard is a great update—much appreciated! However, I’d kindly suggest updating the product feature guidelines, as they’re still a bit unclear. It can be disappointing when products don’t get featured after launch, and having more transparency in the pre-launch dashboard would really help. It would be great if you could clearly indicate whether a product will be featured or not, and also share tips on what changes or updates are needed to get featured. Just like you removed the 'Launch Now' option because it wasn’t working well for launchers, it would be helpful if the pre-launch dashboard could clearly show whether a product will be featured or not. This way, it won’t come as a shock for new launchers when their product is launched but not featured. Providing clarity on product features before the launch would make the process smoother and more transparent. I’m sure people will really appreciate this improvement!

Great update, Rajiv! The new "Create Draft" feature is exactly what our team needed to collaborate before scheduling our launch. Quick question: Are there any plans to integrate the Pre-Launch Dashboard with tools like Slack?
