Do websites still need SEO now that everyone is using AI chat tools?

I am building a new product but I am confused about marketing. Everyone I know is getting answers from ChatGPT/Claude/Perplexity these days instead of searching Google.
Should I even care about SEO anymore, or is there a better way to reach people?
(context - I am a techie and a complete noob when it comes to marketing 😅)

Hey Dhairya,
That's a great question, and a common one with all the buzz around AI chat tools like ChatGPT and Claude!
But here’s the thing: while people are turning to chat tools for quick answers, most users aren’t making buying decisions directly in these chats, nor are they diving deep into topics. Chat tools provide a fast, surface-level response, but they’re typically aggregating data from actual websites to answer these queries. For in-depth exploration, research, and making purchases, people still turn to websites.
Plus, if website content isn’t optimized for search engines, it’s harder for AI tools to pull in relevant, accurate info. SEO ensures that your content is not only easy for people to find but also keeps it in the AI ecosystem, which draws on indexed, up-to-date data.
So yes, SEO is still crucial. It's what feeds these AI tools the latest, best information—and ensures people find your product through both search engines and AI.
