Do you think BARD will overtake ChatGPT?

Do you think BARD will take over ChatGPT because it's part of the Google ecosystem and will be integrated and adopted quicker by the mass? Or does ChatGPT already have a considerable headstart?

As Yan LeeCun said, integrating LLMs into search is a non-trivial tasks and call me a fan boy but if I had to put my money on someone solving that problem, it would be Google.

I wouldn't underestimate Google but at the same time, OpenAI have the backing of Microsoft and definitely have a headstart at least in terms of user adoption.
I want to put my money on OpenAI to be honest.
@aaronoleary OpenAI is definitely going to beat Google. They went through 3 iterations to land on GPT-3 as the finely tuned engine that not only uses massive datasets but human labelers to produce output without discernable imperfection. Bard's launch is a testatement to this, it received negative headlines for the inaccuracy of its output

@aaronoleary @adamlui It still has some work to do indeed, but knowing Google I think they'll catch up quickly

Google has an enormous data and know how, that is why in mid-term i believe they can create a similar quality product like chat GPT but the real question will be how they will position BARD?
Will it replace google search bar or a gpt-like standalone tool? Will they use their trust score to scramble answers from various websites or how it will be? Will they enable BARD answers benefit from google's data analysis like google trends or popular local searches or will it be static?

Hello,
I think they are going to target different users. Most of the people that I know (no tech people or no startup people), don't know much about ChatGPT and how to use it. I think that audience is where Google Bard can reach.
All the best,
@rubenlozanome This is so true, which is why I believe my DuckDuckGPT got featured today (people just want to use it after hearing all the buzz). It gives me idea to build GoogleGPT next, too!
@rubenlozanome In that, I think people know about it and using it for data to day basis their content and marketing work.
Even I have seen a few ed-tech founder who are using it simplify their common dev problem,.

After some time, once people get knowledge ab the concept chatGPT and ab pricing of different alternatives, I think that BARD from Google will get a preferent place between main alternatives

@jonazpiroz Definitely, I think it's all going to come down to what roads they'll decide to take toward different customer segments
It’s not time for the decisive battle yet, so don’t draw conclusions lightly. Although the user matrices of both are very powerful, in essence, which one gives the higher results, action transformer may be better

@new_user_27a2dc6e8a I think it will be an interesting battle a lot of people will be watching

I'm guessing Bard is not going to be any different from Bing powered ChatGPT. If Google takes too long to launch, they will likely lose a lot of their customers. People will not quickly switch back because now there's no advantage point to do so.

@rushi_parikh Definitely
Launching soon!
I couldn't be sure about either. My concern is about content creators and how they will be affected. We all know search engines use content without the consent of its creators, but the chatgpt and bard will take it to another level.
Launching soon!
@simon_s_j I hope everyone can adapt to the changing market.
@dineshan_sithamparanathan Agree! But I think content creators that create rather than using AI will find an audience from a flight to quality that AI will never match. The masses eat at McDonald's but there will always be a place for the gourmet burger joint.....

@dineshan_sithamparanathan @simon_s_j Both very fair points, I didn't even think about this yet

It is interesting how the tables have turned. Earlier it was the responsibility of the content provider who claims something. But now with ChatGPT and BARD, the responsibility has shifted to OpenAI and Google. It will be difficult to forgive Google or OpenAI if they misrepresent a fact even though the fact may have been misrepresented by the content provider. Earlier the onus was on the content provider, now that has shifted. Now content providers or the dataset is anonymous. People may be harsh on Google more than OpenAI though.

I think distribution matters a lot for the product like this and despite the embarrassing launch, I think BARD should catch up pretty quickly - given just the pre-organised volume of data that Google already has. But there will likely remain also a large chunk of a different kind of search where the current text box, or some future version of the search text box is still the most useful way to get information. If you've tried bing+chatgpt, tbh the experience is also not the best yet to make me change my behaviour.

@adilhalim Interesting insights, a lot will matter on distribution and adoption indeed

I think it could if they present in their products, like Gmail, chrome, meets, etc. ChatGPT presented a really great way that attracted many users. If BRAD will be integrated their product and people will use it daily I think they can overtake it.
Different users, different usage

I think BARD has some potential to surpass ChatGPT but it will take time. Many people are already actively using ChatGPT (or if they're not using it, they're definitely aware of its existence) and I can tell from my own experience that it's hard to convince people to switch to a new tool once they've grown accustomed to the first one. Not to mention OpenAI is surely aware of their competition, so they will most likely come up with all sorts of improvements and updates to stay ahead of the game.
It will be an interesting competition, that's for sure. 😄

I would say yes, the bard will cross the competition between these two.
This can be beneficial if you want more control over how your application works and looks
If you consider how much more data Google has through their Search monopoly, I would think so.

@bartdrijver97 Data is key. Obviously, the future is unpredictable and there's no telling what could happen, Google's data is a huge moat.

It won't. They will co-exist.

We only need to look at the history of Google products to know how likely this is. They weren't the first to start emails, search, ads... or really any of their products really but look where they all are now.

@billycart You're right!

I think it is a matter of which company we trust for their API. Many of us still remember being burned by Google for giving us APIs that they soon sunset. You learn to not invest time building on someone else's land.
