Documenting my journey towards a world without spam - Week 1

Hey there! I’m Claudiu, a Data Protection specialist, and I’m working towards a world without spam. In March this year (2023) I finally made the leap started learning to code. I found a deal online too good to miss for a beginner’s course on Python, and even though I had only about 3 hours a day to dedicate to this, I said “What the hell! Let’s see how far I can go.” And I dove right in. It definitely wasn’t easy though. There were days when I felt like the smartest man alive. And there were many others when I felt like a complete idiot because of how many bugs I had in my code. The thing that improved my mood on those days, was the thought that someday I’ll be able to look back on this and laugh at how simple were the problems. I’m still no expert by any means, but yes, I can definitely look back now and smile at how simple and obvious were the answers back then. The reason why I wanted to learn to code is because I still want to solve the problem with spam and scams (my previous startup failed because I was fighting tanks with arrows). And I knew that this is a big problem. But now, diving deeper down the rabbit hole, I can tell that it’s way bigger than I thought. If Google or Microsoft, or all the other tech giants haven’t figured this out, you can imagine that this is no easy task. But somewhere down this hole, I found a way to patch things up and start tackling this massive problem. There’s still many things to do, and many things I don’t know, but it’s definitely the right step in the right direction. See you next week.
