Our product actually aims to solve this through user engagement by opening a new communication channel on your SaaS.

One of the first things is considering what type of clients are purchasing. If they are not qualified, or if they are coming for the wrong reasons / expectations, they won't last.

Now, about retention, activation time, or time to value is a good metric to measure. Many product managers or marketers do this through the onboarding.

Depending on your pricing model, you may have a one time deal like annual agreement or a monthly subscription, you may have a trial or a guarantee time. In every case I'd say you'd have a mapped customer journey where you know what success means for your client.

Sometimes it's just a matter of things actually working regardless if it's a product or service, if there are no bugs, then that's actually one of the best retention trick.

Finally, analyzing why your client leaves or churns is what will tell you how to iterate on your process to increase LTV.
