Hi guys ) I just wonder how you are dancing around these two choices - to get work done or to be perfectionist in everything you do. Very often in case we are pressed by the limit of time we should chose between "done" and "perfect". How you handle it? Personally I filter the works as essential one and the works which is might be done perfect.

Done! Though it took me a long time to full embrace this!

The only caveat about choosing 'done' over 'perfection' is that what you believe is 'done' actually delivers a worthy product/solution/outcome that people can use so you get meaningful feedback to keep improving. It's no use launching a half-baked product that gets poor reviews and that stops the concept from reaching its full potential.

From a PM perspective, Shape Up embraces the "done" as a central principle. This is an interesting talk about it:

I don't think products can ever really be "done" or "perfect". Things can always be faster, more resilient, bug free, portable, etc, etc, etc. Settle for "works", or sometimes "works on my machine", or occasionally "has yet to cause a fire".

100%! Perfection is a long road. Tasks need to be "done" to go towards it :) Great topic, that dilemma exists in most agile teams

Perfection is a relative notion. For instance, what would be perfect for you wont be for me... Each person has his own requirement. So I will go for done or well done ;)

Yes right! Sometimes people waste a lot time perfecting things and never start. Its better to get the things done⛳

I prefer done, done is better than nothing

Done is better than perfect? Even if I didn't get the expectation I wanted in a certain output, I'll still be proud that I finished a task. Although far from perfect, I still did it with effort and precision, and that's what's important.

@leyla_aliyeva1 Have you ever faced with the situation when done imperfectly task has no value at all? How to avoid the practice "activities just for zero value activities"?

@xander_off deep question 🤔, nope never happened. I won't be able to give you clear answers on that.🙃

good question! probably what helps me is to determine the priority for a particular task - to complete the task as quickly as possible or to do it perfect

Great one. Done >>> Perfect. Perfection is a journey and can't be achieved in one go. Focus on MVP and see the results. Keep perfecting it as you go :) This has helped us in our execution.

Done is better than perfect but it still has to be done good enough. Already had to learn that the hard way :)
