Favorite analytics platform?

We currently use Google Analytics / Firebase for our web + apps, and connect it to Metabase to build dashboards combining data from other sources like App Annie and our own Database. We're thinking about moving to another more app-focused analytics platform and are considering Amplitude. Does anyone have an analytics platform they love? Ideally one that is native app focused.

Hey Julia, I'm currently using Mixpanel for my iOS app. A few minor data delays here and there, but it's been perfect for my purposes thus far. In fact I'm still on the free plan.

@mattli Hi matt , I just made a new product launch, I would really like to hear about what you think about it
Julia Putzeys
@mattli awesome thank you! seems like i need to consider mixpanel a bit more. appreciate your insight

Amplitude and Mixpanel have similar capabilities and can be quite useful for saas. They have different pricing models: Mixpanel charges per tracked event Amplitude charged per tracked users So depending on your app usage, one will be cheaper. You might also consider Smartlook Qualitative Analytics. They build several product analytics features like retention tables and cohort analysis. You might also consider setting up segment, to broadcast data between different analytics platforms. That helped to test out several platforms.

@fabian_maume this is really helpful, thanks so much. I've been looking at the comparison between Mixpanel and Amplitude so appreciate that info. Will check out Smartlook as well.

@fabian_maume thanks for the explanations! Does any of these solutions work for tracking on browsers that block cookies?
Fabian Maume
@selin_anil No. To my knowledge the only way to track users blocking cookies is to use server side analytics. Google tag manager release a server side version but haven't had time to look into it yet.

GA4 is quite nice. Much more intuitive than the old GA

@johnsmi52412940 True - I still don't find the dashboards to be very helpful though, especially for native app / conversions

We use and love Mixpanel for our mobile app analytics. It has great out of the box reporting and powerful segmentation capabilities that make it easy to get deep insights into user behavior.

I really like Amplitude. Use it everytime for different segmentations and funnels...

Have you checked UseFathom.com? A lot of GA users are using this to make analytics really simple and declutter their dashboard.
Tableau - best for flexibility

Hey! We use Google Analytics too but it's pretty limited because it doesn't take into account all traffic from cookie-free browsers like Brave... That's a real limitation to our the establishment and evaluation of our global strategies. I'd be curious if anybody could suggest better alternatives!
Julia Putzeys
@selin_anil That's an interesting point. Looks like there are a lot of good suggestions in this thread for alternatives!

Though I don't think it can be a replacement for Google Analytics, it can definitely be a boon. You can try using hotjar. I've noticed it presents a solid view of where users are leaving and you're missing conversions on your site.
Julia Putzeys
@richard_gao2 Thank you! Definitely open to leaving GA in if there is a way to improve our overall insights.
